a tablet taken for one medical condition can actually aggravate the condition even further.

For instance, my daughter is taking antihistamines for her CIU and eczema - a condition with which she gets extremely itchy, red & swollen eyes. The AH's help in one respect, however one of the side effects of AH's is:- itchy red swollen eyes....

A bit like some antidepressants, whose side effects can be:- anxiety symptoms.

Can anyone explain that?

Never come across this......................stop taking the medication if it is making the condition worse.

That is the soultion, but it doesn't stop it being weird though, that something supposedly meant to relieve a condition can do the exact opposite. It's a funny old life.

The Prof has prescribed Cetirizine bd and Loratadine od for her CIU and her eczema. With both of these conditions she suffers from itchy red dry eyes.

The antihistamines are helping the hives and the eczema - but are aggravating her eyes - in fact her eyes are worse than when she's not taking the antihistamines.

I recall some antidepressants having listed as a possible side effect.... death.

salla....are you sure that itchy red eyes are a side effect of taking AH? I have never heard of that.

It would indicate to me that her eye problems are not necessarily allergic in origin.

Both her optician & GP think it is either allergic conjunctivitis or blepharitis. But it always seems to have gone hand in hand with her eczema/urticaria.

There seems to be no medication that doesn't have a side effect,or have a knock on effect with another medication already being taken|!
I was taking (last year) medication for Gout,and this cause me to have the runs (badly) but as the foot was very swollen I had no choice but to continue with the meds
.It's all very well for Sqad to be glib and say stop taking the medication,sometimes this is not possible.

I am not being "glib" at all......could you please give me an example of a situation where the medical condition for which one is taking the medication, making that medical condition worse, cannot be stopped and other medication considered?

Other than, of course, anti cancer chemotherapy.
