Unusual because I worked for a very large organisation in the middle of nowhere with very quiet roads leading to it; but the jam was caused by a problem with electricity lines. I phoned to say I would be late (approx 15 minutes).
I was appalled to find out later that someone else from the workplace had been sent out in his car to drive approximately 7 miles to find out if I was telling the truth about the traffic jam!
Gem - I noticed you have a female boss. I hope this doesn't reflect on all female bosses, as I was one of them once! I was very considerate, kind, helpful, understanding & efficient of course - in fact all the things that in my eyes make a succssesful boss in the long run.
Personally, I think she was being very unreasonable, seeing as you had phoned in to pre-warn her that you would be late!
If you had have turned up late without giving prior notice, I could understand her being disgruntled, but that wasn't the case. She is obviously asserting her authority & making sure 'it doesn't happen again'!
There has to be give & take in all walks of life, including the work place - otherwise, people will rebel - even in their own sneaky little way!
Salt or pepper in her tea/coffee perhaps?
i just feel a little annoyed that anything i do at the moment doesnt seem to be right!
i did phone as soon as i saw that i was going to be late and i had no way of knowing how long the jam would take to clear! Case was that a car had gone underneath a lorry and there was a lot for the services to clear up
FP - Our posts crossed.
I can't believe anyone would go to those lengths if you were seldom late & especially after phoning in to pre-warn them!
I could understand a boss's suspicions if someone was habitually late, but you obviously wasn't, otherwise you wouldn't have been employed by them for very long!
