TONSILITIS

I have tonsilitis which have never had in my life before..stated five days ago and being my bad luck,it was a Saturday...no doctors surgery.At first it felt like I had something sharp in the side of my neck/throat.Monday I saw the doc man who gave me antibiotics..but I am not getting better as fast as I feel I should,whenever I have used them before after a couple of days have felt a great improvement....I feel as if I am dying...have been in bed on and off ,sweating terribly but if I get up am so cold,shivering in fact.

Supposed to be going on hols on this coming Sat...not a chance..fortunately,will be able to follow on when better,if I ever do.

Anyone out there had this and how long was it before they felt as if thwey were back in the land of the living?

I get i alll the time...plenty painkillers and your antibiotics im usually okay after a good few days!

When i get it really bad i sweat and hallucinate its horrrrrrible!!!!!! Xxx

You`ve only been on the antibiotics for two days which isn`t very long - especially if it got quite well established before you were able to get the medication. You`ll probably start to feel the benefit in a day or two. I`d take ipuprofen for the pain and inflammation as well and make sure you drink lots of fluid.

237Sj..actually it is three days from Mon,I have been taking the antibiotics,although the first he gave me which was called Penicillin,made me feel really sick,upset stomach and queer feeling in my head,so on Tues got the doc to ring me and he then perscribed me Clarithromycin,and a lower dosage.I did not stop taking the first one but took only one tablet instead of two until I got the new ones.I really wanted Amoxilyn which I have always had in the past but this was not my doc ,who is on hols,so did not like to ask this doc for them..he should know his job.Maybe,I have severe tonsilitis,like I said...feel like I am dying!!!!! Hope I NEVER get it again..horrible!!!!My throat feels like it is full of broken glass and my ears really hurt.Will take your advice and get some Ibrufen,have been taking Paracetamol,not being sure if I could take anything with the antis.

U can take all three..brufen, paracet and antibiotics xxxxx

God,won`t half be rattling with all those pills...be a walking(when I can) baby`s rattle!!!!

I think if you take regular paracet and ibuprof aswell as your antibs you will feel pretty well quite quickly! Let the antibs work on the infection and the painkillers get your pain ok and your temp down etc....

Its helpfull to stagger the ibu and para...ie take two brufen then 2h later 2 paracet....(im sure you know its two every4hrs).....that way you are always "covered" xxxxx oh and i gargle salt water it really takes the sting out...sometimes breathing even stings my tonsilitis! Lol xxx

I have been only taking one Paracetamol...no wonder i have not been getting better!Will sort it all tomorrow, Ibruprof...,i always thought it was Ibrufen?????

As for gargling with salt water,don`t think I can do that...will make me sick...any other suggestions and please don`t suggest TCP...oh God,that is worse!!!

I just have a drink ready and dont breathe and gargle it- honey and lemon mabye????

Two 500mg paracetomol
And two 200mg of brufen....(mabye just how i spell it ibrufen ibuprofen )

Not sure i could gargle tcp either! X

been drinking honey and lemon...but the lemon hurts my throat..oh dear,I am in a bad way,arn`t I.

Go to pharmacist and ask for the hydrogen peroxide solution 3% (skin disinfectant / mouthwash/ gargle. That will be MUCH better to gargle with! Gets rid of all the crappy germs at the back of throat. I thought my hubby was bonkers when he first suggested it to me years ago. Now I wouldn't use anything else for sore throat tonsillitis etc etc.
