I have just finished a course of antibiotics for a bite on my leg which became infected and now I have another bite on my arm which appears to be going the same way. It's already at duck egg proportions.
Why do I react so badly to bites? Is there anything I can do to stop this over -reaction?
I don`t know what`s happening this year Tilly. I have never noticed let alone reacted to bites. One on my leg is just healing after weeks but yesterday one on my elbow was so bad that I had to get it looked at and I still can`t bend my arm. The swelling is so huge. And it`s my pint lifting arm. :-(
I'm the same, just getting over three nasty ones on my arm & got some more on my foot.
The best thing I can do is take an antihistamine the minute I suspect I've been bitten and even then I can't avoid some inflammation. I asked the doctor if it was ok to take anti-h's all summer as a precaution but he didn't think that was a good idea.
Some people swear by Skin so soft by Avon but I hate the smell of it...that's probably what keeps the insects away. An elderly neighbour swore his Old Spice aftershave stopped the bugs from biting if you fancy splashing yourself with that? :)
I've heard about 'skin so soft', Robinia. I started to use the spray on dry oil. yesterday. Fortunately I do like the smell of the blue one. The pink one is too much.
you can always try a lemon based deterant spray, we were told about it in Turkey and it worked, in cuba i nearly died from shock after over 100 bites, it was horrible and so painful, they told me it was because i tasted good to a mosquito and that i should have taken garlic capsules for 3 weeks before going away
you can try yeast tablets (available from your pharmacy). i use them when i go abroad and i am the only one who doesn't get bitten. might work, then again, it might not. good luck x
