sweaty hands

I have chronic sweating hands, and I dont know why. even if I'm NOT nervous or NOT about to go somewhere, they'll just sweat all the time. I try to pace my breathing and calm myself down, or put hand cream on them, but they always do.
what's wrong? is it a disease? is there a cure?

Hi figwit.

I feel for you as I suffer with the same problem. My hands are always slightly damp and if I'm nervous then they're soaked.
I'm very aware of where I put my hands because if I put them down on a table top they'll leave a sweaty hand print. I hate having to shake hands with people and always sit and wipe my hands on my trousers but the more I wipe the more they seem to perspire.

I found a cream for it though. In Tesco they sell a cream called Perspirex which you put on the palms of your hands before going to bed and then wash it off in the morning. After a couple of days my hands were dry as anything. As said you can get it in Tesco and probably most other supermarkets and chemists. This is what it looks like:

You can have botox injections in your palms to stop it completely - the stars do this so they won't have sweaty palms when they shake all those hands at awards dos.  Dunno if that would be available on the NHS though.

i had this problem until i was 21 then i had an operation. i have 2 scars on my neck where they cut.....but now the op is done by cutting and entering under the arm i believe..........it worked and my hands never sweat........i was pleased i had this op .... i tried so many different things to try to dry my hands up before the op.......your doctor will explain better............good luck

If you have the op, you might get compensary sweating in another part of the body. How severe is your case? It seem to be minor because you only get it in the hands. People with Hyperhydrosis often get it in the hands, feet and underarms, sometimes other places like backs, face, everywhere. Try the Msn Hyperhydrosis group, you can get information and advice there. You can ask people who have the same problem and product thats available. See you doctor, there are product like lotion and other treatments. In your case the lotion/cream could just do the job.

Hi Figwit

There is also something available from all chemists etc, called Anhydrol Forte which is a roll on. It is for the topical treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessice sweating). It's can be used on armpits, hands or feet at night & again, wash off in the morning. My husband had the armpit problem, not BO but just wet, this has worked a treat.

Botox is available on the NHS, well at least it is in the department I work in.  We mainly treat hand sweating with iontophoresis.  Think there is a maching you can buy to treat yourself at home.  It is worth seeing a dermatologist for further advice though.
