Night Shifts And Sleeping
3 Answers
I bagged a job I was after (yippee), I will be starting night shifts in a couple of weeks, but I am fretting on how/when I will sleep. I will ask the other colleagues at work for advice, but I wondered what sleep schedule AB night owl's have. I'll find out more next week, but my shifts are likely to be 9pm - 7am.
At the moment I work all kinds of shifts 7am-5pm, 12-10pm and for a while I have been working 3am-1pm, so I think I'll adjust fairly quickly if I have a routine

If I came home and went straight to bed I'd sleep for an hour then wake and not be able to drop off again.
Try and sleep at the back of the house if you live on a busy road and in the summer, try and sleep on the northern side so the sun doesn't affect you as much.

My OH did shifts for over 30 years. [it ruins your social life] He always said earlies was the worst because of getting up at 4am in the morning. And in the summer he hated noise because when he was trying to sleep during the day there was noise from lawn mowers, diy fanatics and ice-cream chimes to name but a few. How he managed to eat at all those different hours got me, but then he has hollow legs, lol!
Am going on a mission later to buy some blackout blinds for the bedroom. The main problem is the noise from the school kids between 8 and 9 which tends to set the dog off, so I might have to invest in some decent earphones! OH gets home by 1pm and in bed by 7pm. Ideally I'd like to be up and about to cook tea for about 5 or 6.
