I know conn, its awful. have you seen your gp ?
Me too, but I suspect mine is temporary - due to erratic sleep pattern, no work routine, hot flushes.....

I had true insomnia a decade ago though - it was awful.

Try hops. Stuff your pillow with dried hops from a brew-your-own beer supplier.
People who live near flowering hopgardens or who pick hops sleep as if they were dead. No dreams, no restlessness, no mugginess on waking - just total solid sleep. Been there, done that.
have you tried just taking one every second night? I find that sometimes works.
May I just ask...do you drink a lot of tea during the course of the day? That is often cited as accuse of insomnia.
Sorry.. Blooming predictive text! 'Cited as a cause...'
If I go and have a vigorous swim, I struggle to keep my eyes open later.
atalanta; when you say you wake up with no mugginess, how many hours of sleep is that? I have nights of dreams and nightmares so looking for a remedy but need to wake up at about 8!
Connemmara, I've found Bach's Rescue Night quite good after a herbal tea drink to get me off to sleep. My problem is the dreams / nightmares.
Best advice is to either remove the clock/alarm clock / or turn it the other way or further away from your reach during the night.... takes a bit of getting used to but when you realise you dont need to see the clock during the night , you will find a your sleep a lot better, just get rid of it and set your phone for an alarm and leave it outside bedroom door!!
Coccinelle sometimes being too warm in bed can bring on vivid dreams..don't know why it happens though.
That can't be the reason as I don't have heating on in the bedroom, daisya.
I cannot sleep in a bedroom that is deadly silent.
have to have back noise, such as radio or story tapes that send me off to sleep.
I am normally very restless so me and o/h sleep apart and sleep much better.
My doctor would never offer sleeping tablets unless I am desperate.
How late do you drink caffeine? Avoiding it from about 2pm makes a big difference to me
