Hi all,

I've just started a five day course of antibiotics (amoxicillin 250mg) and wondered if it's ok to drink with these? Thanks :)

So true, once we lose that ability is time to pack up - glad you are smiling hun. x
@Sqad

that explanation makes perfect sense. However, I reckon I was recalling something said recently and on the TV - like Dr Rosemary on the Breafast/One Show sofa or some such.

p.s.
never realised that best answer could be changed - I thought the link disappears after you selected one?
Its unwise to drink alcohol when you are on anti-depressants.
The only time I have been advised not to drink alcohol with antibiotic is when the antibiotic has been non-penicillin based. I was told that whilst mixing them wasn't dangerous in itself, the combination might make me nauseous, so not a good idea.

As it was, what I had at the time made me so ill that I didn't want to eat or drink anything, never mind alcohol, so I wasn't really bothered.

Mamya - thankyou. I hope you are well too :) x

ClaryS, I'm not on anti-depressants. I'm on nothing other than this antibiotic and a mini pill.

Saxy, I ended up phoning the chemist where I got the prescription and asked her. She said "well I wouldn't advise drinking heavily, but a few drinks won't hurt, and you'll be fine with this type of medication".

That's good enough for me... :)
A couple of drinks won`t hurt. Maybe not a skinfull (been there, done that) although I`m still alive to tell the tale.
Sorry Baby_Sham for mentioning the anti-depressants. I presumed you were still taking anti-depressants -this post is only a couple of months old

Not wanting to alarm anyone but I consider amoxicillin a health hazard. Had it prescribed me and I ended up passing blood for days. Lord only knows what it was doing to my guts.

Thanks for the further replies. Kinda wish I hadn't read Old_Geezers though :-/

No, Clarys, just to clarify, I take no other medication. Nothing at all, nadda, zero, zilch.
People always say "Dont drink on anti-biotics". But its a myth isnt it?
I mean if you are ill to the point that you need medication, perhaps have a week off the booze for good measure anyway!

I wasn't talking about getting sloshed, just a couple tomorrow night as I'm heading out for a Birthday meal.
It's only for toothache, I'm not ill... so lets not be hasty and suggest laying off the booze, jd! :D
Ahh right I assume a minor infection or something.
For toothache, the alcohol may help!!
