Me and the missus are pensioners; she has diabetes, type II and occasionally gets it wrong and has a 'wobbly.' By chance some months ago we picked up a couple of the energy gels that are presumably 100% glucose or whatever, and as 'she who has to be obeyed ' was too poorly to sip from a glass some coke (or something else sugary) to aid recovery did manage to rip off the lid and get her to ingest one of these gels (mandarin flavour). Thankfully, they seemed to work a treat, and after 6-8 minutes she was 'back with us.' My question is: do you think this was the right course of action from me (I live in Cape Town and it's not that easy or in fact desirable to get hold of an ambulance/paramedic services); are these gels safe when used in this fashion? Was this the right course of action? Your thoughts would be much appreciated ....
Which Energy Gel did you use? Those intended for Marathon Runners contain Glucose and various minerals. You might be better off getting one specifically for diabetics.
