Went to the GP as the toe pain was unbearable and despite the advice given here I thought I best get it checked out.

He suggested infection rather than Gout or Chilblains, I have taken the antibiotics for over a week and I am nearly finished with the pack and the pain is still unbearable. It's hard to wear shoes and I cannot work out what the problem is.

Waiting for another GP appointment.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I broke it in October so it must have healed by now?
A blood test would possibly rule out Gout dependent on the uric acid levels. Have you had one yet.
Just read your latest post, hadn't realised you had broken it previously.

Yeah sorry, I broke it in October and I was visiting the Ortho surgeon anyway so he took a look and said it was fine, to strap and wait. I did and it seemed to get better so I stopped strapping it and got on with it. A few weeks back I stubbed the same damn toe and the pain was unbearable. This subsided and then recently the pain has returned in the tip of the toe and again it is unbearable.
Thanks for the feedback.

I agree with furrypusscat.......a blood test seems essential here to exclude gout.

You need to take Nsaids e.g Ibuprofen at least 400mgs every four hours if necessary.

those of us - and it sounds like gout like I get - who studied before 1900 were clearly told that a serum urate wasnt much good in an acute attack

and you should needle the joint and look for bi-refringent crystals

just a thought - I note you are under your GP

\\\\\\and you should needle the joint and look for bi-refringent crystals \\\

Just let a Dr try and stick a needle into my red hot and swollen toe and he would certainly know where to look for his "bi-refingent crystals"
That was Dr Huskisson yes related to the first railway death -

Hope you get better soon GF. Let us know what happens
Question Author
Well the doc is stumped. Had another look, antibiotics taken and unsuccessful. X-rays taken and fractures ruled out.

Podiatry next.
