There are two kinds of painkiller that you can take at the same time. . .I remember one is Ibruprofen, but can't think of the other one. (you can alternate them so that you're having a pain killer every couple of hours) What is it please? I'm in pain with my tooth. Thanks

Paracetamol I expect although I'm sure aspirin is also Ok. Toothache is awful, I take whatever I can get.
Yes, paracetamol.
Question Author
Thank you. Have I got it right, that you can take each type every four hours, so therefor you can take pain killers every two hours? Thanks
I'm sure I've seen that advice more than once Marijn. For a short term crisis like this I doubt it makes much difference.
Guidelines are paracetamol (500mg) two every 4 hours. No more than 8 in 24 hrs.
Ibuprofen (200mg) two every 4 hours. No more than 6 in 24 hrs

Thank you very much.
Welcome x I agree with prudie. Don't worry too much short term.

Yes you can take paracetamol together with Ibuprofen or alternately, no problem.
NEVER take Ibuprofen and aspirin at the same time. I nearly died from loss of blood through doing that.
I do it all the time. Sometimes bad things happen. the list of what can interact badly with various painkillers and various other drugs is endless.
Prudie my love..........this question has nothing to do with drug interaction and you are correct when you say "bad things happen."

Ibuprofen "may " cause stomach bleeding.
Aspirin "may cause stomach bleeding.
If you take then together, then you are "pushing your luck."

It is unusual, very unusual for paracetamol to cause stomach bleeding, so it is the one to take with Ibuprofen.
Just don't take them on an empty stomach.

Thank you all. Is it ok that I've been alternating Ibuprofen with Co-codamol (i.e Codeine Phosphate Paracetamol)? PS I don't take Aspirin as I have an "aspirin-like platelet defect.
No problem ^^^^^^

Thank you Sqad. I've been taking the Co-codamol for six days, is that ok? It says on the packet not to take for longer than 3 days as they are addictive. Also that they make headaches worse if you take them for longer than 3 days. But I'm taking them for toothache, and I'm unlikely to get addicted. How long can I take them for? Thank you
It sounds like a visit to dentist is required which is by the sound of it not exactly relished, but it is the only way!
Until recently, people were taking co-codalam indefinitely with no problems (generally speaking)

Gps are now a little more reluctant to prescribe them.

yes you can take Co-Codamol as long as you need them, but get yourself to the dentist.
\\\It says on the packet not to take for longer than 3 days as they are addictive\\

You have already taken them for a week,I would be more worried about constipation than addiction. I would suggest one more week, maximum..........maximum.
Carakeel took them for years with no addiction problems, however I am not recommending taking them indefinitely.
