Toothache

I have never had toothache before and now I have a raging one but it seems to be affecting under my tongue and the side of my mouth too - even my lip at the side - is this possible?
I don't have any appointment for another 20 days so just keep taking painkillers but it doesn't hurt all the time

It would appear so.

it is all to do with the nerve supply to the teeth and adjacent areas.

The nerves are joined there, evidenced by the fact that if you have an injection at the dentists they ask if your lip, tongue, and/or and jaw have started tingling yet.

Go see an emergency dentist if in that much pain.

Thing is two minutes ago I was in agony now its like it never happened

Well I always think this kind of come and go raging thing is likely to be linked to an abscess under/by the tooth and a dentist couldn't do anything about it until that's been cleared up with antibiotics.

Having spent many nights groaning in agony with a tooth abscess i'd get an emergency appointment.

Ah!.....this may have nothing to do with your teeth. Trigeminal nueralgia comes to mind or shingles. Watch out for a rash on the face or ears.

Monitor for the next 2 days.

OK, it is unusual, very unusual for a dental abscess to cause intermittent pain, it is usual constant. Intermittent, severe toothache might well suggest a non-dental cause due to the conditions that I have described.
I would still monitor for a couple of days, but if you are worried, then see your GP earlier.

Please, please get to a doctor or good dentist and get your soft tissues and teeth checked out. Worst case scenario, thinking of my friend who had a terrible diagnosis, I'm sure you're fine but just to be sure get it thoroughly checked.
