Nosebleeds

I am just browsing here and there when I suddenly started to sniffle and sniffle so thought heck I am coming down with a cold but no blood is pouring out of my nostril

This would be my 4th nosebleed this year and last year maybe had 5 - is there anything to worry about. If not what causes them.

A few per year isn't really worrying unless they are very hard to stop - more than that and very heavy I would recommend getting checked out.

They are quite alarming to get as blood just pours - don't think I have that much blood coming from any of my other orifices. Truly horrible.

My dad used to get nose bleeds when he drank Guinness. Didn't stop him trying though.

Well if they are so heavy and long lasting get seen to JJ.

heavy yes but thank god not long-lasting. Can stem the flow by pinching my nostrils after a fashion!

In the past two years I have known two people whose nosebleeds were so sever they needed hospitalisation and surgery.

Don't ignore if they are debilitating.

JJ...it was only when he drank Guinness. He was okay drinking everything else.

I've had up to six nosebleeds since April, I just know it's my high BP, once I stop the bleed, I lay down with my feet up

I have read some reports saying it is high BP but every time I get checked - the nurses actually look at me like a freak - saying they have never saw/seen as good blood pressure reading as some people's naturally rise by going to see doctor/nurse.

I'm no doctor. But occasionally it can be connected to high blod pressure. Don't be tempted to blow your nose conne when the bleeding stops , pinch the midde of your nose try not to swallow any blood( make you nauseated.

I know I don't have white coat syndrome as you described, I do suffer with hypertension so know the signs, sometimes I ignore them, get nose bleeds. If you're worried about them see your doctor.

Could it be thinning skin in your nostrils? 4 already this year sounds like it should be looked into.

When you are sure the bleeding has stopped smear some petroleum jelly inside the nostril - a dry nose lining can cause nose bleeds, and in any case it will protect and aid healing.

Do this twice a day for a few days, see if it helps

thanks hc - too tired to hunt the jelly right now and tbh don't feel that inside nose is dry etc. one just wonders what does trigger it off.

As a teenager I used to get nosebleeds quite regularly. When I did my National Service I had the offending blood vessel/s in my nose cauterised which really helped stopped the nosebleeds. I still get occasional bleeding but it happens very infrequently.

I should add, I didn't feel any discomfort when having the cautering process carried out!

I've had the same nostril cauterised 4 times in the last 3 years. Daily naseptim cream for me now.
