I've had lots and they are fine. It is very dignified considering, and way less stressful than a smear. You lie on your side with your knees bent, and they give you some sedation. You feel nice and woozy and they put the camera in- I didn't even feel it. I watched it on the TV screen cos it was fascinating, but you don't have to! They take tiny biopsies as they go round,...

Hi Kloofnek
I've had endoscopies both up the way and down the way. I didn't have the diet so I cannot offer any advice there. But what I can say is that both were done very professionally by wonderful staff who could not have been kinder.
For a down the throat one, I'd have the sedation if I were to have another one. For the up the bottom one I can honestly say that taking the laxatives and the effects thereafter were far and away the worst part of the whole procedure.
All the best when your time comes. I'm sure all will go well.

// face down with my ass in the air. Best avoided if possible.//
you mean Mikey you dont post on AB face down with your ass in the air?
and your posts make me think ....
I had picolax but my bowels were within this conversation 'normal' before they started - it isnt that bad to be honest Kloofje. They may give you midaz before or during the procedure - but after a few I just er stuck my ass up in the air and told them to get on with it
( I had the dog in the car howling as it knew something 'was going on' and I wanted to drive - so ,,,, no sedation

They take tiny biopsies as they go round, which you can't feel. There are hardly any nerve endings up there. Honestly, it is not scary or humiliating at all. You are covered up with a gown and blankets. As for the food, it drove me mad, all that white stuff. Maybe google some recipies or ask a good cook what you could make to make it more palatable. It's only for a short time and then you take the laxatives, which also are nice and easy, or were in my experience. Good luck!
Hi Scarlett
Thanks for your reassurance.Sounds like you had laxative tablets, mine is a orange flavoured liquid...but I am dreading that part, one:I cannot drink huge amounts of liquid(a lime and lemonade lasts me all evening...I am cheap to take out)so I am going find it very difficult ...pluse...so disgusting...all those visits to the loo...I worry in case I don`t make it and have an "accident".
Regards to eating,Rockyracoon,(second post) gave me a link for low fibre foods...very useful.
Will be putting the results on here on Thursday...do hope it is good news!!!!

I had the treatment once and took advice from someone else to eat less on the final day before laxative. The less you have in the less there is to come out! No huge meal the night before, just a small amount rnough to stop you feeling hungry. Believe me, it made it quite manageble with no near misses.
As for low fibre, you could have pasta such as macaroni cheese, with small garlic bread. Jacket potato without the skin. Crackers and cheese. Cakes and biscuits are OK.

Little and frequent sips are fine, you don't have to glug it. Also, make sure you have the day off when you are taking the liquid- it doesn't give you explosive diarrhoea, more like very watery as if through the eye of a needed ;)
You may get a slight feeling in your stomach of "time to go now" but you shouldn't get any wild shocks. Just make sure you are fairly near to the loo during that time.

I would set up camp in a bedroom - get some mags and TV and books etc, or
Internet! You will get mild grumbly tummy just like if you ate something that disagrees with you, and you'll have loads of time. But if you're worried, wait in a room next to the loo but keep busy. I'm guessing you've done this now as your procedure is today? Good luck and let us know how you got on!

Hi Everyone...I am sooo happy...they found nothing wrong with me...I was so sure there was...just got to take iron tablets.
It was the worst experience I have ever had from start to finish, having the children was a doddle compared to it....I know,I know...I am a coward and now I feel so proud of myself for going through with it ...which I almost didn`t when I found out I was having it at both ends.
The shorts they gave me to wear saves one`s dignity.
I would like to thank all, once again, for your support
So here`s to a happy Christmas, one and all.
