Sorry, I see I am under the wrong section.
Erm...B and S seems the correct place. ;-)

Magnesium citrate is a safe supplement to use. But start with a small dose as too much can be "explosive".

Last January I slipped on ice and smacked my ribs on a stool - very painful. Going to the toilet was difficult since I couldn't push. After a week my wife went to Boots and the lady there suggested Lactulose. That was the first time in my life that I've taken a laxative and one dose did the trick.
Sorry, but I had to laugh that BHG smacked their ribs on a stool. Ironic given the subject.

Can't offer nothing to the OP, Senna does for me when ruined.
Well its don't constipulated which section you should have used might be of no help to you but one a lady I know was not well when doctor arrived out she told him her complaint and medicines she was using . he actually said to mix them as there was different ingredient in them which if used together would help .You know what it did . Mixing medicines is not advised but for your complain it might work .
Well spotted Eccles - the other kind of stool might have softened the blow a bit.
Another vote for Senna from me, when on a heavy mix of painkillers I just tailored the dose as and when needed.

I have mentioned time and time again - pure bran - get it from Hollands and Barretts. Put it anything liquidy - hell bent you will go.

Thank you Jenny, always good to know these things.
Full fat milk - clears me out no end x
BTW, wouldn't wish shingles on my worst enemy. Been there.
Have you tried Glycerol Suppositories? (Not for swallowing!) At one time (don't know if they still do) doctors used to prescribe little enemas that you can use yourself. If you go down the bran route, make sure you drink plenty of liquid, and then some.
Nettle Tea or strong black coffee, or beetroot or prune juice can all have a laxative effect.

I personally found lactulose a complete waste of time.
Be ready if you chance the Glycerine suppositories, once and only once for me.
Chap is supplied with suppositories by the doctor. After a fortnight doctor asks how he is getting on.

Chap replies, "Those pills you gave me are useless. For all the good they've done I might as well just shoved them up my aris.
Whatever happened to syrup of figs?
When my father was on strong painkillers, his GP also prescribed Compound Macrogol Oral Powder (sachets to be mixed with water)...works as a one-off, but also safe to use regularly.
..or cabbage water?
LOL Jack, you are feeling better!! xx
