There has always been much fat shaming in the gutter press and on here to some extent but little thought is given to consider those who are skinny.

Not all 'skinny' people are that way by choice. Some describe themselves as scrawny and have similar body issues to the larger folk around them.

I really don't quite understand why fat shaming is considered OK by some, yet slimmer folk are complimented on their lithe bodies just because they can hide behind their clothes and disguise their issues.

It strikes me as terribly unfair and does not take into consideration why an individual has one body shape and someone else another. The reasons are many and varied.

Thoughts anyone?

Voltage - the thing is people who say things to overweight people tend to do it in a nasty manner. Comments to thin people seem to be considered acceptable.
It would be nice if we could all adopt a policy of not judging anyone unless we have walked a mile in their shoes. But it is my guess that some people on seeing a morbidly obese person and a morbidly underweight person will feel sympathy for the "potential anorexia sufferer" and revulsion for the obese person. And they cant see what is wrong with that.

No NOM, you grow up.
then they have a problem ummmm not the person they are calling names... they are obviously insecure about themselves

An excellent summarisation BM.

Quite why the two ends of the spectrum are treated quite so harshly is a mystery to me.

There are people out there (I can see some on here) that seem to think that they are better than fat people, seem to think that fat people do not have feelings, don't care what people say to them and can laugh it off!
The restaurant comments are a good example!
I have been at both ends of the extreme scale with eating disorders at 15 I weighed 6 stone at 44 I weighed 31 stone (there I said it) phew.
I have cried at some of the things that have been said to me not only on the streets but on here.
Some people are born mean and will always be mean and it won't matter what there latest hatred is fat or thin, black or white, they will always have something or someone to hate.
anyway Eccles a good thread ...what now are your thoughts?
It does not apply to a lot of people but some are the making of their own size, they can control their own size by not been so greedy, I have a few friends that often say I wish I was as slim as you, my answer to them, the ball is in your court, it's your choice to eat like a horse.
No TWR we can't control what we eat at all - if it was that easy I would not have nearly killed myself!
islay the people who spoke to you the way they did... did you not confront them i would have.. some lovely people about
Some I did, some I didn't, some just has me reaching for another cake. But I am having the last laugh because as they get fatter I get thinner!
Yes it cost me 12 grand but What The Funicular I will have a life!
RATTER..." I just think weight loss dieting is a slippery slope to getting bigger and bigger!! "
You're not far wrong there...recent research shows weight loss dieting..ie calorie counting...does not work. What does work is lifestyle change...finding what works for you. In most cases it's NOT starvation. Most calorie counting diets result in eventual weight gain.
TWR - Food is recognised as an addiction. Saying to someone you choose to eat like a horse is what keeps them on the cycle of comfort eating.

well done and good luck you've done really well lets hope you get to the weight you want to ASAP
I'm sending you a big ((((HUG)))) Islay.
Thanks and sorry Eccles I did not mean to hijack your thread x
Ummmm, I have people saying to me including some of my friends, I wish I could be like you Slim, I reply the ball is in your court, you control what you eat not me, why do some complain when it's happens by their own doing.
Like I said, it's recognised as an addiction. When people use food for comfort they release chemicals which the body craves for. Same with gambling people are chasing their own adrenaline rush...until they are chasing the next big win to cover their debts.

Addiction to anything is not nice regardless of what it is.

No one sets out to be overweight, or be a drug addict, alcoholic etc...
Food addiction is actually the worst of all addictions as you can give up the other addictions but you need food to live!
I have had professional help for food addiction and TWR you don't have a clue with your comment about controlling what you eat!

Islay, no need to apologise.

TWR, your ignorance is sounding. You have no idea about what causes diiferntials in weight, you just focus on one thing. There is a myriad of causes.
