with the flu. I thought, and going on experience that the best thing is plenty of bed rest, drink fluids, take paracetamol or equivalent. But NHS
Scotland is inundated, they are struggling to cope with this outbreak.

Everyone I know that has it has also had the flu jag, That doesn't seem right
Protection against the wrong strain, mazie - the NHS guessed wrong last summer when the vaccine was specified.
Oh Dear (Thanks Dave x)... My next door neighbour has been in bed with it since New years day.. really bad. I suppose it's very difficult as I believe the flu mutates from year to year. I had it once back in my late 20's, thought I had a brain tumour and couldn't get out of bed for days
it won't be the first time a vaccine has been the wrong one.
Probably won't be the last time either.

Social care is seriously under-funded which doesn't help the 'bed-blocking'

Pasta, hope you feel better soon x
Thanks alba and emmie x

I do worry what would happen if I had flu...as my daughter is several hundred miles away. These are the times I hate being on my own.

if you were really seriously poorly could she come and stay with you, perhaps at a weekend
Yes...I think she would. She's able to work from home to some extent. Of course, I'd rather the situation didn't present itself.
Pasta, keep your mobile telephone with you at all times in case you feel very unwell, it also gives you some security. I hope you feel better soon .
Feel well soon Pasta x
It's 100 years ago this month since Spanish flu broke out and had a devastating effect throughout the world. I suspect we are in a slightly better position to prevent unnecessary deaths now.

Question Author
The dreaded 'Aussie flu' is more severe than the Swine flu pandemic of 2009 which killed nearly 300,000 people across the world, an expert has warned.

Peter Horby, professor of emerging infectious diseases and global health at Oxford University, believes this winter 'may well be worse than others'.

His fears come amid the emergence of H3N2, an aggressive strain of influenza A that rocked Australia during its winter and triggered triple the usual number of cases.

Few people who claim to have had Flu have actually had the real thing. Most have had a heavy feverish cold. The Spanish flu outbreak of 1918/1919 killed between 20 and 40 MILLION people worldwide , over 3x as many as were killed in the entire war. It was the single greatest medical disaster of the 20th century.

Real Flu is a major killer.

i missed that, but have gone over the posts, seems that many are elderly and falling by the wayside, which isn't good.
It isn't good, it's sad so many are on trolleys and so poorly

Was that because of NHS "underfunding?"
