I work part time and have taken off last Thursday, and Monday, Wednesday and tomorrow this week.

(It's the number of days illness which is counted, not the number of days that you're actually absent from work). So your employer has the right to demand a doctor's note:

The relevant extract says "Employees must give their employer a doctor’s ‘fit note’ (sometimes called a ‘sick note’) if they’re off sick for more than 7 days in a row (including non-working days)." I read that as meaning it's for mor ethan 7 elapsed days, regardless of whether you work 3 days a week or 5 days a week. Maybe we've misinterpreted it. I read it that fit notes must be provided but maybe some employers have the option to waive that requirement.
