with the flu. I thought, and going on experience that the best thing is plenty of bed rest, drink fluids, take paracetamol or equivalent. But NHS
Scotland is inundated, they are struggling to cope with this outbreak.

and seemingly we aren't doing all that well south of the border.
Maybe because they are too Ill to be at home ?
Because they have been medically assessed and deemed in need of treatment?

Nobody is going to be accepted onto a ward unnecessarily.
Some groups of people are more at risk than others Emmie. But I would question how many people actually have a real flu virus, as apposed to a heavy cold ?

I can think of some of the members of my own family, who disappear under mounds of tissues and pills, about 3 times a year, and its always the flu apparently.

i can understand if its the elderly which can affect them badly, and if there is no one to look after them, but ordinary colds, flu will be miserable but not life threatening for most.

Perhaps sqad has an opinion....
As someone said on the radio yesterday, if you think you might have flu you haven't got it.

Real flu knocks you down, and can be deadly for some.
A cold and influenza are quite different.

It is a truism, if you have flu you will not bend down to pick up a fifty pound note.

i have had the flu in the past and it knocked me out for two weeks, totally miserable, but i didn't think at the time that it was life threatening. I just felt tired, banging head and a cough that wouldn't go away.
im diabetic had flu jab 3 months ago have had flu for the last 2 months still got it now doctors said keep in warm and plenty of fluids...well it ain't working for me doc!!

volty, sorry to hear that, just as i am sorry for anyone enduring the flu, i know how bad it can be.
Our hospitals are overflowing with patients on trolleys over a number of days - very sick people and the ambulance bay has more in ambulances waiting to get into the hospital, they are being treated in the ambulance, I have 2 elderly friends (aged in their late 80's and mid 90s) and they're families are telling me, because they are notadmitted until they get to a ward, they don't get fed from hospital either so family are bringing flasks of hot drinks to them and that, it's disgraceful situation here and only now the government are having crisis meetings about a crisis that they knew was going to happen, I wouldn't mind but our country (Rep of Ireland) is run by Dr's - our Taoiseach is a Doctor and the leader of the opposition is a doctor yet our heath service is the pits
There is a new strain of flu I was reading yesterday that is not in the vaccine we got back in September and that's nothing to do with the aussie flu - some folk need to be in hospital with this flu. We've already had some one die with the flu this year
hi emmie thx it would be nice just to wake up just one morning feeling ok ,forgotten what thats like
their - spell checker - not they're families
Children going back to school this past week , many having been away and some not having had flu protection - coupled with the fact that this strain is a 'super spreader'. A fair picture here.

ducksie
sounds very bad, i was watching the news and Scotland seem to be stretched to the limit, with Ms Sturgeon apologising for the fact of its over crowding.
Yours seems the same..
That's another one mamya, over here parents have been told to keep any child with even a sniffle home, don't send children to school who are displaying signs of flu - I head off most mornings to a group of friends, I've not done this since before Christmas now for fear of picking up the flu from any one of them
I'd say we're similar to Scotland emmie, but what is a awful is that the ambulances can't get out to emergencies as they are treating folk so heaven forbid something happens apart from flu, the ambulance can't get out to it
Ducksie, I have purposely avoided crowded places for the last 2 months, and carry hand sanitizer with me everywhere .
Same here Anne, never without my hand sanitizer and no public places although it kills me because i enjoy my mornings out when i can, I've shopping voucher gifts burning holes in my pockets for the want to get out and spend them - sales will be over before i get out to them
