Eye Drop Problem

Can anyone advise me how to get eye drops in when you can't see without your glasses? mine end up running down my face with very little ending up in the eye, annoying and wasteful.

you should be able to do it by er feel

pull down the lower lid - so it makes a pouch and makes you look like a st bernard
and there is a little sill made which you can pop the drop in

Hold your eye open with two fingers on one hand with the bottom finger along the bottom eyelash line. Then hold the dispenser above the bottom finger and drops straight into the eye.

Tilt your chin up, head back with one finger gently pull down the lower lid - it's the only way I manage four times a day.

I have the same problem using Viscotears last thing at night....OH does it for me!

How we are all different! I use eyedrops daily and tilt my head right over to my shoulder and drop them in the outer corner one side and inner corner the other.

Same as Mamya. I have four lots of eye drops to do three times a day, been doing them for 10 years now, never had a problem.

tis easy. pull down your lower eyelid to make a little cup using two fingers with a gap in the middle. Your hand holding the dropper should "know" where the gap between your fingers is and with practice, you can easily put a drip in the cup. Don't try and look at the dropper. either look away or ahead.

means you are putting it in an non sensitive area
and not splatting the cornera or conjunctiva

I found holding a mirror with one hand and opening my eyelid AND holding the drops with the other hand and tilting my head back was the only way of doing it!

You really do have to try and find your own way, a mirror is good if you can see of course.

Don't worry about some escaping, it often happens.

that's what I think about contactlens Biccy- how can you see that bloody dot on the end of your finger and get it in without your spectacles.

I don't know if this will help but after my cataract operation I was advised to buy something called an "Autodrop", it is absolutely marvelous. It fits on almost all size of eye drop bottles and there is no mess or waste. I got mine from Boots but I am sure other chemists will stock them, as far as I can remember it cost around 5 pounds. I have recommended it to several people and all have been impressed with it.

I tilt my head right back so my face is almost horizontal and then drop a drop of the eye drops into the corner of each eye nearest my nose. Practice makes perfect.
Viscotears are a different matter, gave up with them not just because of the difficulty of administering them but they make my vision too cloudy.
I’ve recently bought some eye spray from Asda opticians, own brand stuff, which is very easy to use, effective, and a lot cheaper than the branded spray. You spray it onto closed eyes and it works it’s way into your eyes.

Thank you for all your replies, Birdfeeder that sounds like a good idea, I will go out tomorrow and see if Tesco pharmacy have one.

It’s dead easy biccylova.

I’m blind in one eye, and can’t see too well with the other.

It doesn’t matter if you splash a lot on your nose, or put too much in your eye. Don’t worry about that aspect.

Rest the eye drop bottle againgst the top edge of your nose, and squeeze, bottle pointing towards the corner of your eye. Drops will fall into the corner of your eye. Job done!

All this pulling the eyelid down to form a pouch etc is a lot of baloney, believe me. I’ve been using drops for glaucoma for over 12 years and the way I do it results in my pressures being stable at 12-16 for all those years.

should have said it is a bit like an eye bath in shape, washable and so lasts for years. Hope you have success with it if you get one, most large chemists should stock them or offer to order one for you, best of luck.
