Hip Pain
7 Answers
Ok so first off I know I must make a GP appt - and I will - but in the meantime any ideas:
Pain within hip joint. Both sides just as bad. It's right where the ball n socket part would be. Far worse when sitting. So much so that I'm now finding it really hard to sit at my desk. When I walk or stand its much better, so it's mainly when sitting. (though all my joints seem stiff at the moment). It's been going on for about 3 months and I even changed my desk chair to an expensive ergonomic one thinking maybe that was the problem...I can't see it being osteoarthritis as it's more of a "burning" pain deep within the ball / hip joint and also it's okay when I stand / walk.

Doesn't really hurt much when walking or standing but the only position that offers 100% total relief is lying flat on my back. I'm 44, Im not overweight, I'm pretty healthy in all other aspects
Glad to hear you are going to make an appointment to see your GP. It may be that he will send you for an x-ray to see if there is any damage to the ball and socket joint. When I had something similar I ended up with two new hip joints but perhaps your problem will turn out to be something much simpler.
thanks Maggie - lets hope it's simpler - I just find it odd that its BOTH sides. Like if it was an injury or wear n tear I would have thought one side would be worse. Also I have ostearthritis in both knees (result of too many dislocations and ops to fix them) and this feels different. It's more "burning" pain than stiff. I hope you are well on the mend after your hip replacements though!!
No diagnosis hits me in the face, but on the basis that "commonest things occur commonest and you already have two dodgy knees, my guess is that you have developed bilateral osteo-arthritis of the hips.
A wild but informed guess.
Your GP will set into place certain investigations such as blood tests and X=Rays of both hips.
