Colonoscopy Under Sedation

Has anyone had the above ?

Do you know what to expect - how aware are you when you have the sedative ?

I meant mentioning your huge tumour to someone about to have a colonoscopy. It doesnt help with those of us (like me) who areanxious and might have these worries in our minds.

Ive had two.
First one with canula sedative...uncomfortable but (just about) bearable. Had some polyps removed.
Second one with gas and air. Horrendous. Discontinued half way through because I swearing so much with pain and sweating profusely.
Medic performing it wasn't too sympathetic to my discomfort and made it known to me. Will never have another one.

Well if you are going to have a colonoscopy it is obviously for a medical investigation for some reported problem by the patient.It will provide a negative or positive result. If you can't take the prognosis then don't ask or bother to have the procedure done. I was quite relieved they found a tumour so we could crack on and get it sorted

Yes, I've had it - almost completely unaware of what was going on behind me. My only gripe was when they heard I came on the bus, they insisted I took a taxi home, even to the extent of accompanying me down to Reception and standing by me while I rang the taxi firm.

That's what happened to me, although the doc doing bit was lovely. So I went back for a cat scan which was fine

If I had another one I would definitely hsve sedation

I have had it done and the fact is you don't feel much
you have to turn on your side so have to be somewhat awake for that...
the medication beforehand was vile, not recommended

I had a colonoscopy without sedation. No problem at all. I could see everything on on on the monitor. Three polyps removed, two cancerous.

i had three removed as well, pre cancerous, the medication the day before was vile.

Yes. it was. I ave it twenty minutes and ot the TD out!

I think we all feel different. It hurts some and not others. I had gas and air and was still in pain. So they stopped it. I wasn't prepared for the amount of pain I felt. I know of others like me.

hated the picolax - it's changed now.
Had sedation, not too bad, had the occasional sensation of the tube turning corners.
Couldn't see a thing on the monitor, no, not squeamish, they'd taken me specs.
A number 6 was used and I asked for something smaller.
Won the gold medal for pharting at the Olympics that year.

Take all the sedation they offer. I had fentanyl and midazolam and it made no difference - I felt every twist and turn.
I had to wait ages for the Picolax to kick in, felt like hours

I was determined to get through it without a fuss and just at the very end - under my rib cage - i had to change position. I agree the fasting and 'clear out' was the worst bit by far

I didn't get issued with medication. I was sent an enema pack to do myself!! It didn't do a complete job - yet another problem which stopped the procedure!

My sedation had no effect, even though the written info said not to drive, sign any legal documents or spend that night on my own.

After the procedure, I sat on the gurney in a side room devouring the tea and biscuits, and was able to complete a cryptic crossword!
