Trochanteric Bursitis

Just this afternoon been diagnosed with this as the reason for my extreme pain in right hip.
Told it’s v hard to heal/treat but it’s possible (don’t know how accurate that is).
Told to put ice on it every 4 hours, order exercise bands to do prescribed exercises, pain killers etc....... Oh well, at least I know what it is now.

A friend has had this for a while. I don't know how long it might last. She has painkillers and an exercise plan. Hope you get some relief soon Smo.

Both my daughter and my self have this bursitis, and have had them for about 5 years. I have tried exercise, painkillers, etc but the only thing which gave relief was a cortisone injection, of which I have had 3, (at the moment hoping for another, speak to doctor next week) and my daughter has had 5 injections. She has been referred to a specialist for possible keyhole surgery. Totally fed up with it all.

I've had similar. I get pain in the top side of right leg, when I'm lying in bed. Also pain in side if buttock and pelvis. I've read about piriformis, and it seems to fit the bill.
Had X Ray about 5 weeks ago. Just said very mild signs of arthritis. Hopi g to get help from physio. Hope yours settle down soon.

patsy....pyriformis is the name of a muscle in your buttocks, the Pyriformis Syndrome is due to the sciatic nerve being trapped as it passes below the muscle.

Yes, Thanks Sqad.
I meant to have added Syndrome! Trying to eat here at the same time as writing...
It can be very painful, especially at night. Hoping physio will help.

Sqad, sometimes if I am sitting and wriggle a bit to get comfortable I get a very sharp stabbing pain on the outer upper part of my hip and that area feels quite sore.Also can happen if I am standinng and turn my upper body.Is this likely to be Bursitis?

danny....no, bursitis tends to be a more constant pain rather than episodes which would tend to suggest a nerve involvement either from an ageing spine or even entrapment beneath the Pyriformis muscle.
Extremely unlikely to be Trochanteric Bursitis.

Thanks Sqad.It doesn't bother me too much, just a fleeting very sharp pain.
