Sorry for yet another post on the AZ vaccine

A colleague of mine - his mum suffered multiple blood clots after getting this vaccine .

Makes you wonder if this vaccine is a problem

Are these countries being over catious?

Re my post at 9.34, the article was posted on Google but came from BBC news yesterday. I think it said the mumber of deaths through blood clots was less than average figure.

I think these countries are using this as an excuse to discredit the UK, not sure if it's spite or envy. It's despicable that they are risking lives and wasting valuable vaccines when there is no evidence to back up what they're saying.

Exactly vulcan; but the knock-on effect will be even more of a disaster because when they do have the vaccines, they will surely announce that after careful analysis of the data they have declared it safe.
But, thousands of people will forego having it out of a perceived fear that it isn't really safe, putting themselves & the rest of society at even more risk.

There are a lot more European citizens dying of Covid 19 than there are dying of blood clots supposedly caused by AV .

Even if the EU finally see sense, the damage may have been done in discrediting the vaccine in the rest of the world. If it leads to low uptake in Africa and other parts of the world it will put us all in jeopardy.

Blood clots are one of the most serious complications of having Covid. People should be made more aware. No link, as I am just listening to this on the BBC news site. This also has been known and reported since the pandemic started.

Jourdain, I am on blood thinners (not Warfarin) I was given a deeper injection with a different needle, apparently to decrease the risk of haematomas.

Vulcan, I am not sure what you mean? I am watching the BBC News Channel and Victoria was interviewing a doctor or health officials who stressed that Blood clots are one of the serious consequences of having Covid. (Which I knew).

The AstraZeneca vaccine is perfectly safe - as will be shown - and I'm pleased to have had it. From the current BBC website:

"There is no suggestion the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is unsafe.
Blood clots can occur naturally and are not uncommon.
About 17 million people in the EU and the UK have received a dose of the vaccine, with fewer than 40 cases of blood clots reported as of last week. This is no more than would be expected in the normal course of events.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is expected to issue a decision on the continued use of the vaccine on Thursday."

Apc, thank you for the link, this line stands out.

This is not the same as blood clots being formed by the vaccine. I listened to the BBC news and a valid question was asked. why have these countries suspended the use of Astra zn vaccine but not the Pfizer which has similar percentage figures regarding the clotting? I believe this is political scaremongering and it is quite disgraceful for them to make this accusation, putting peoples lives at further risk by denying them the use of this drug. Incidentally, WHO have again reiterated there is no evidence that these drugs are the cause of blood clotting.

I should have been clearer. There is a known risk of blood clots caused by the virus. The risk from the virus is definite and confirmed.

Even if the connection is proved, we are still in the realm of choice and probabilities.

How many people stop crossing the road because of the number of pedestrians killed so doing. It's up to individual choice to compare the risks and make their decision.

Furthermore, steps will undoubtedly follow to reduce the risks (just like we've done with crossing the road).

I've had the AZ one - no side effects at all.

Let's say, purely for the sake of the argument, there was a direct causal link between the AZ jab and the blood clots - I've read there's been 37 blood clots out of 17,000,000 doses...or put another way 0.0002%.

Statistically irrelevant.
