my sister currently has anorexia (but is hopefully getting better now) and has suffered a few problems because of it. at the moment her feet tend to swell up very badly, meaning it is painful and difficult to walk for very long. her face also swells up, especially around the eye area. this is purely cosmetic, but she feels very self concious. the doctor says there is nothing he can do, and i cant seem to find out a reason for these symptons (wrong word?) on the internet. does anyone know why this is happening, and more importantly, how to stop/reduce it? thank you so much

Hi Swizz, I had anorexia for several years. This isn't a symptom I remember, but I think it might be down to the balance of fluid in her body. Nettle tea is a mild diuretic and might help to rebalance excess fluid, try and ensure she does not drink this as a form of weight control as it's calorie free and excessive amounts might cause her more harm than good. It does however also contain iron which will be good if she is anaemic. She might not feel like it but I think drinking plenty of water would be a good idea too - again calorie free and excellent to help rebalance her system. I know you might not want to hear this, but keep an eye out that she is not using bulimic techniques now - swollen glands in the neck and face can occur following self-induced vomiting. I hope this helps. x

try a cold metal spoon run under the tap for 60 seconds and then aply to the eyelid

black tea bags soaked in cold water

sleep with head elavated to try to reduce puffiness to eyes
