Is it possible to take four 200mg ibuprofen in one go? I know it says not to on the packet, but does anyone know why you can't do this, yet you can take two 400mg ibuprofen together?

You shouldnt take 2 400mg tabs at once.Who told you that? The max dose is 400mg at a time.
I have to agree. The maximum dose you can take is 400mg.

It's possible, but not advisable, to take 50 at once!

You don't mention what condition you are trying to treat with all this ibuprofen.

You really should discuss this with your doctor because there are some conditions/cases where higher doses might be recommended. Or if you are needing better analgesia than the ibuprofen is providing you might need a different prescription.

i have ra, and have 800 mg tablets, but these are slow release, not the normal ones. You shouldnt take 800 mg of normal release ibuprofen in one go
Sorry alijangra but you are mis-informed, 400mg is not the max dose. I take, and have taken for the last 12 years - 600mg 3xday on doctors orders. However, with regard to SBell2406's original question I wouldn't advise taking four 200mg at once and if the problem prompting such a large dose is causing so much pain they should certainly consult their doctor.
well as a nurse in an orthopaedic surgery, Im sorry Im not misinformed. High doses of an NSAID like ibuprofen regularly is a very outdated practice and is against our hospital policy. In all my time as a nurse I came across one patient on the 600mg dose who had been on it prior to admission, the pharmacist immediately advised the patient that this is not good for them and they were commenced on diclofenac (voltarol). You are greatly increasing your chances of developing gastric problems on this dose and I hope you are on a proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole or lansoprazole to protect you stomach. If 600mg of Ibuprofen at a time was a recommended dose, the pharmacuetical companies would also be advocating it.
My point about a max dose being to a member of the public buying them over the counter. I think its irresponsible to give any other kind of advice with regards to medication doses on a site like this. I certainly would not be saying that 600mgx3 daily is recommended.
There is 600mg of ibuprofen available. you can take one tablet of 600mg instead of three 200mg tablets. You can find the details on 600mg at International Drug Mart Media URL: http://www.internationaldrugmart.com/ibuprofen.html
