broken nose?

How can you tell if someones nose is broken? My son just really banged his face and is telling me it is broken (though to be fair he is only 10)

I guess the only guaranteed way is to have an x-ray!? Usually though you can see that the nose is broken as it will be out of shape and the recipient will very soon have two black eyes!

A blow to the nose is quite painful and many folk, not just the young can believe it is broken .......... just keep your eye on him and if the pain starts to settle there is a good chance it will not be broken. (imho)

An x ray of a ? broken nose is a waste of time and irradiating somebody unnecessarily.
Unless there is a possible compound fracture and the doctor needs help deciding whether to give antibiotics or not.
Not really a lot to be done with a broken nose anyway.
Please remember that radiation is dangerous - and even 1 very smal dose of radiation can theoreetically cause cancer in yourself or your yet to be concieved children and grandchildren.

Yeah what ever silly moo, I just sorta thought the in your face !? at the end of the sentence would of emphasized to all the validity of such an action .... Thankfully mycatis caught the 'jist' of my reply and hopefully no harm has been done, theoretically or otherwise :-)

i'd see a doc and get it straightened. ,u nose was broken as a child but i was doing something naughty on a climbing frame so didn't tell my mum.

i regret it - it looks horrible on photos, but straight in real life - i have had an operetion on it and nose bleeds and its just been a real hassle

thanks for your help and concern folks, but he is ok, he only has a tiny bit of a bruise under one eye, (I think he is a bit dissapointed lol)
