Broken nose

My friend thinks he's broken his nose in a football accident. The doctor has told him to come back in ten days when the swelling has gone down. Is there any way of telling if the nose is broken without xraying and what is the best way of getting it to heal quickly?

X-raying is the only way to tell if it's broken before the swelling goes down. It can be reshaped and may need a splint. Healing is helped by rest and a good diet.

hi,
i broke my nose on saturday. It doesn't show up on an xray as the bone isn't dense enough so there no point in doing one. The doctor can tell just by looking at it if it's broken or not. Mine didn't bleed at all and i've had no bruising but its definatley broke. I have to go on tuesday to get it seen to. Just tell him to make sure he doesn't knock it or pick it and he should be fine in around 2-3 weeks
