When I was involved in a road accident recently a really lovely man helped me. He really didn't have to do what he did and I'm so grateful to him. If a lady had helped me, I'd have sent her flowers but what can I send him? I stuck for ideas and I don't really feel a card is enough.

Thanks in advance x

Hmmm, very difficult as I assume you don't know much if anything about him.

On the whole, most people drink wine, so maybe two good bottles, one red one white. If he doesn't drink wine, he most likely knows someone who does so could still put them to good use.

Having said that, I've given flowers to a man before.

Do you know anything about him that could help?

Not sure if you're posting the gift but a bottle of wine etc is always nice or a voucher for a dinner for two at a nice restaurant. its good to know there are some decent people still out there and i think its lovely that you're going to show your appreciation. My house got burgled last year and only for the neighbours raising the alarm god knows what might've happened. The next day i went over with a card and chocs from M&S.

Thanks for your suggestions Englishbird and shazbang! They're both great, but I think I'll get him some restaurant vouchers- excellent idea as I need to post them to him.

Do you know where I can get any from, that you'd be able to use aroung the country?

Thanks again x

Leisure Vouchers can be used at over 4,000 outlets including Beefeater, Brewers Fayre & Pizza Hut as well as Butlins, Haven and Thomas Cook. Ive had loads in the past ranging from 5 upwards and would recommend them as a pressie. Their website is www.leisurevouchers.co.uk

I know how you feel- I once embarked on a serious detox, which left me very light-headed in the first couple of days. I tripped over in the street- RIGHT in the centre most central point in the town. It was SO embarrassing. Most people just ignored me but one man came up and held my arm and asked if I was okay and said all the right things. I was very comforted by this, and then he went away. I WISH I could have thanked him more but I was in shock!!

He will, I'm sure be grateful for anything.

I don't know if you have a boyfriend or seeing anyone at the moment but if not why don't you offer to take him out for a meal? He must be a really nice bloke for him to help you, and you don't know where it could to.

I helped a lady once when I was least prepared (barefoot and shirtless) and spent hours caring for her, covered in her blood. (Sorry - a bit gross, I know, but she turned out fine.) She insisted on knowing where I worked, and she later baked a pie for me and brought it to my office, marched into my office and told my employer how I had helped her. Her returned kindness was wonderful and something I've obviously never forgotten.

Just visualising Rampart in a Bruce Willis Die Hard Scenario.....he he

The truth is any real hero gets little or no praise at all.
I was driving behind a car one day when its hazzard warming lamps came on and it must have got 12 metres before crashing into three parked cars. I stopped my car at a safe distance, put on my hazzard warning lamps and got out of my car, not sure of what to expect. It turned out to be a guy was diabetic and had come over all dizzy. I managed to get the owner of the car to firstly calm down and then phone for an ambulance.
Oh and to answer the question:
Yes be sure to praise them up and keep the world a better place....sure whatever 'gift' you chose will be greatfully accepted!
Do you know whether he has a garden? If so, virtually all garden centres sell National Garden Gift Tokens which are encashable at any garden centre for plants, gardening tools, etc. Alternatively, M & S vouchers, W.H. Smith vouchers, or possibly a book or CD token?
how about a house plant?

Thank you everyone for your answers, they're brilliant- why didn't I think of any of them?!

rebecca321, I'm attached at the mo', but that would be such a romantic way to start something with someone, wouldn't it?

I think I'm going to go for SusanLisa's idea of the Leisure Vouchers- it doesn't restrict where he can spend them then- thanks SusanLisa!

Now... I'm going to be a pain. How much do you think I should spend?

Thanks again- I really appreciate it x
