I dont know if this is the right place to post this but never mind. My fiance and i are planning on getting married and we could never agree on either having a church wedding or a civil ceremony. So now he has come up with the idea of getting married at our local football team, who he just so happens to follow all over the country! I have no problem with this but now he wants the whole theme to be the same colours as the football team which again i have no problem with. What i do have a problem with is that he wants everyone including me to wear one of the football shirts. How do i tactfully say no get lost! Or shall i just sit here and think a bit harder about it?

You should tell him that you would like to feel really special on one of the most important days of your life, and you don't think you could achieve this feeling if you were wearing a normal football strip.

You could make sure that everyone else wears the football strip colours but that you and your fiance wear a dress and suit, then you'll really stand out above all the rest!

Don't even consider doing it just to please him. This is the biggest day of your life and you must be 100% happy with what you're wearing. I have seen some footy weddings in the papers etc but never one with the bride wearing a bloody football shirt!!!! Hes getting everything else he wants, with your blessing, so the least he can do is let you chose what you're wearing. You aren't gonna stand out much as the bride if you look exactly like everyone else... NO, bad idea!
Can i just ask, do you support this team? or have a keen interest in football? Its your wedding and is one of the most important days of your life, if it was me however much i'd want to make my boyf happy, i wouldnt want it football themed unless i was a huuuuggee football fan, so i'm just wondering if you are?

I dont mean to offend here by the way!! xx

Hope you have a lovely day what ever you choose! x
My hubby is a mad Leicester City fan so for our wedding day, i had a special Leicester City garter made. Nice, subtle touch!

In a few years time, you will have children and they all like to think their Mummy is the most beautiful in the world. It will make you feel wonderful when they gasp and smile in wonder at the photographs of your wedding day and the special efforts you made to look like a princess for one day.

Don't deny yourself or them those precious moments. Put your foot down and make it a special day, regardless of the venue.

I'm a season ticket holding footie fan but would never even consider asking my wife to do this, it just doesn't seem right to me. No offence but I just think it's a stupid idea and I'm sure that probably about 90% (or more) of those attending would secretly feel the same and begrudge taking part.

I think Drusilla has given some good advice. I just wouldn't even think of pushing this on my wife just to satisfy myself. Although I really enjoyed my wedding, I would guess and say that most blokes are happy as Larry as long as their wife is happy having the wedding she wants, which for many women is something they've planned/hoped/dreamed of all their life. To most blokes a wedding day is just something that tells everyone that they have found someone they love enough to settle down with, not something they've always dreamed about.

I think any bloke who suggests this to their wife is being unbearably selfish. Surely following his team all over is enough, I would be asking myself just who is he getting married to?

ok i thought i should update you all. We have just had a huge talk about it and we have come to an agreement that both of us wear a suit and a dress and i will use unruliejulie's idea of getting a garter made up of the footbal team. And then if any of the guests want to wear a footbal shirt then they can but it is totally up to them. i think he just got carried away with everything or something coz hen i asked him again tonight he said he had thought about it and that we would look silly and that it was our special day!! to answer your question caz21 i do support the team but im not a totally committed fan! thanks for all your help!!
Oh im dead chuffed you've chosen to do that! I got my garter off E-Bay, but it was just an ordinary garter with blue ribbons and a Leicester City badge. Just a nice touch. Enjoy your day!! It sounds great (now)
