A TENS machine works in the same way (the electrodes trigger endorphins) although it never worked for me when I was in labour ;o)
I read they were mainly due to kinks in the fallopian tubes, meaning when there isn't a proper flow they go into spasm to push everything along (I hope no one's eating). Not that they gave a remedy, but someone I know says it's all or nothing for her, either two days of hell or hardly noticing it. There's clearly a key to it (though being male it's a purely academic interest) though there is a little known suction method which dispenses with the need for a period altogether. It's been around for years but presumably never caught on as it would bankrupt the sanitary product manufacturers. It's a simple method you are taught to do yourself with a small pump and is over in minutes.
No, I was being serious, just found the site http://www.io.com/~wwwomen/menstruation/extrac tion.html
Hello stylinsam,
I'm probably a bit late for you and you probably won't have the ingredients to hand, but here's my remedy for next time:
I pick five bay leaves from the tree in my garden and put them in a huge mug, then I crush five or six juniper berries in my pestle & mortar and put them in one of those little tea strainer thingys and put that in the mug - then I pour boiling water over the whole lot.
While that is steeping I take two paracetamol, then I drink the tea when it is cool enough.
I've suffered for thirty years with menstrual cramp and I was amazed at how effective this remedy is for me - as soon as I take the first sip of tea I feel completely normal again. I hope you feel better soon.
