chest pains
24 Answers
right bit of a serious Q for a friday but, my mum has been having these chest pains, now the way she explains them is like a pulling across her chest. now shes been to the doctors and he hasnt a clue what it is he just keeps telling her its muscular. now my mum says she just nos thats not what it is! and she cant even bend down without her chest pulling! its causing her great distress and all the doctors are doing is telling her not to lift anything heavy! (she doesnt need lift anything heavy, i went round there this morning and she was picking the iron up from the floor and that caused her a lot of pain)
so my Q is has anyone suffered with similar causes, or can anyone shine a light on what it may be !
TIA SSxx

She died from thinning of the arteries several weeks later.
I would go with her back to her doctor, even take a man, sometimes that shivvies them up a bit and say you would like her to have an ECG to check things out, just as a precaution. It won't hurt and she will be comforted more and you knowing that you have pushed for more. I wish I had. It may of course be absolutely nothing to worry about but please check. Does mum smoke?

Sam - tell her that if she doesn't go to the hospital then you are going to go round and taqke her up there yourself!!
My grandad had chest pains for weeks, and put it down to indigestion as he was a little overweight. My nan went shopping one morning, came home and he was sitting on the sofa dead .The post mortem discovered that he had a heart condition which could have been controlled with medication, but as he wouldnt go to the doctor it was too late.

First of all, don't panic. You will hear lots of horror stories from other people where things have been serious. My husband is a nurse and from the symptoms you have described, he says it is not characteristic of a heart attack or angina. The fact that it's painful when she bends or stretches does indeed suggest a muscular problem. Obviously smoking isn't good for you but that's another story! If this is a muscular strain, it will hurt even picking an iron up. Is she having any trouble breathing?
If the pain goes away when she's at rest, the GP is probably right.
Just keep an eye on it, good luck!
