anxiety attack

do u get anxiety attacks and how do u deal with it ? what symptoms do u have or had ? thanks

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It's a horrid feeling I get, I constantly fear the worst and get so paranoid sometimes that I have said or done something wrong without realising and that I have upset someone. A wave of anxiety just takes over and I feel I can't deal with anything until I have sorted this feeling out. Panic is the other thing, comes out of nowhere. If my husband goes out in the car with our 2 girls I suddenly worry what if they crash etc.. if they are a bit late it must be because they have had an accident etc..
I manage to cope with it better know I think because I force myself to realise that they have gone out in the car millions of times and never crashed etc..
I found taking up hobbies helped keep my mind off of things and at the moment when I start to feel funny I come online (if it's possible) and play a few online games just to get my mind off of the worry, seems to work. Looking forward to something helps too, I start to sort out Christmas and what presents I need to buy, what to cook etc.. just to occupy my mind on something else for a while.
I would reccommend if you feel you are suffereing quite badly then get along to your Doctors and have a chat :o)

I get bad anxiety attacks. I've always got butterflies in my stomach but when I have to go out I need the loo constantly, get really, really hot, feel very sick and quite light-headed. Following advice from my doctor I've started doing Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. It's available in self-help format in addition to through therapists and I was advised to get the book "Overcoming Anxiety" by Helen Kennerley. This covers various self-help tecqniques such as distraction and challenging worrying thoughts. Some of it's not that applicable to me but a lot of it's good stuff.

Club member here, tried lots of things and tablets were the sole saviour, though after some years the first ones which got rid of 80% of it started to cause other problems I had to switch to tablets I only take when I need them. At least it gave me the chance to compare and contrast but will add being with people who understand when you're in a difficult situation is the other thing that helps me.
It causes a great many people to hyperventilate (breating into a paperbag helps this) and the heart beats very fast adding to a feeling of faintness. Knowing it will pass helps. Walking or running to burn off the excess adrenoline may help too as does concentrating on something very hard other then your own feeling. If some particular situation causes these attacks (like flying for example) then a one off beta blocker helps, but panic attacks often come out of the blue. Feelings of claustrophobia and sickness can sometimes be overcome or dealt with by adopting stratagies like sitting by an open window, but these can become too dominating in what is mainly an out of control bases problem. Every time a panic attack is accepted, got through, got over and moved into the background lessens the likelihood of another and they gradually fade (usually)
