I am pregnnt (by artifical insemination) just so you know I am a lesbain and do NOT fancy men. I am worried about the pain it will cause. Can you tell me honestly how much does it hurt? and how long the pain lasts for? It is worse then breaking your arm? Is it just when the baby comes out that it hurts or the whole labour?

Obviously I'm not qualified by personal experience, but I do know that labour is different for every woman. Some have short almost pain-free labours, some have longer more difficult labours. I also know that how ever much discomfort you feel, you will forget it when you hold your baby for the first time.

You need to discuss your worries with your midwife - she will advise you on techniques to ensure that you are in the best physical condition to deliver your baby, and how to relax as much as possible, including breathing techniques. which help during labour. She may also discuss an epidural injection - this is administered to your spine during labour, and you will feel no pain during birth.

It is perfectly natural to worry, regardless of how your baby was concieved, but do talk to your midwife, and do IGNORE experienced mums in ante-natal clinics who think it's clever to frighten first-timers with old wives' tales of agony and blood.

Giving birth is not easy, but it certainly is worth it!

Good luck!
it bloody hurts all of it its bad when the head comes out,but look at what you get at the end of it a cute little baby that keeps you up all flipping night
OMG!! Les bains is back!! Lordy lordy. Last time the ruskie gave us a truth and lies graph, this was under "lies".

Rather ironic that she should appear after the mention and discussion on rb's thread??!!!

Ask whiffey, he knows all about the pain of breaking his arm - or was it his leg??
Here we are again happy as can be all good pals and jolly good company,

welcome back, where have you been ? working in the salt mines ?
I didn't even read the replies above.......It is the worst pain you will ever feel in your life...nobody can describe it.....and if they tell you it's not that bad, they are lying
I won't lie to you it does bloody hurt.if you have gas and air and once you get the knack of it it does help take the edge off the pain and there are other things you can have.might be an idea to go to an antenatal /parentcraft group.i was expecting all breathing exercises when i went earlier in the year but the midwife just said we all know how to breathe! instead we had three 1 hour sessions that were very informative on issues such as available pain relief, the different stages of labour, what happens with baby after the birth ie injections, tests.right up to how often you'll be visited by health visitor once you go home. i felt loads better for being fully informed.

cool lets scare the expectant mother what a lot of fun
Bambiboo......This is the russian.....Ask around a bit and you will understand!
I had 4 sections ..so I dont know about natural birth , but I have heard that its not as bad as some think ,, if you imagine your monthly period pains , but a bit worse ..like a belt being tightened across your tummy ,, thats kinda like labor .
they have lots of drugs to help ease the discomfort of labour these days ..so honesltly dont worry that much .

congrats on being preggers hun ,,
ffs its russian ,, gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..
forget what I said before ,, imagine crapping a water melon russian .

thats what its like.=]
Blyss are you mad? Ask your friends to tell you the truth
After the birth, take an aspirin and you should be ready to go home in an hour or two, no sweat!! I understand it may be a bit sore for a while!!

I know coz I been there and watched!!
Cross posts....sorry blyss
Well that's the way it works with sheep anyway!! I don't think you have to eat the afterbirth though.
RATTER,

Waste not ,want not ,pick it up and eat it !!!!
your v splits open and you have to have about 55 stitches i it. then they give you a couple of parecetomol for the pain, but its not as bad as breaking a finger nail.
I wouldn't expect any woman to eat the afterbirth, its gross!!

Now fried with a few onions, and some nice gravy!! well that's different!!
Devilwoman, I agree, I broke a fingernail, it don't half bloody hurt!!
Lol devilwoman, you think that hurts, have you ever had a splinter ? now that really hurts.
Now RATTER and ray, behave yourselves, please! I know it's the Russian, but do we have to go into discussing the afterbirth? And who are you to judge what child birth is like anyway? Try imagening delivering with YOUR bits, with them stretching enough to allow a baby to be born and see how that hurts!!!! Afterbirth ... what are you two like???!!! LOL
