I've just finished a decorating job for a very wealthy Barrister. I helped him out with colour scheming, ordering & collecting materials etc. I even took him down to the garage to pick his car up.
At the end of the job he paid promptly, & he gave me an envelope & said. "Have a drink on me". When I opened it later it contained 2-00 !!
How much do you lot tip? If at all.

I dont, half the time, self employed decorators, electricians, plumbers etc charge enough anyway. You should be grateful he gave you that. I only ever really tip waiters/waitresses because they dont get paid enough for what they do.

4get. I also tip hair dressers, waiters etc...Would they run you down to the garage?
so you gave him a lift expecting a tip?
I wouldn't tip a painter & decorator, nor a hairdresser, nor a waiter. A taxi driver is lucky if he gets a tip from me.

I might have given you a fiver for going slightly beyond the call of duty, but other than going that extra mile - why should people be tipped for just doing what you pay them to do in the first place?

I never expect tips!
It depends on the persons attitude, if they have done their job well, been pleasant and helpfull, then I have no qualms with tipping.
On the other hand, if the potential tipee has made me feel as though I am inconveniencing them, and they have a poor attitude towards me and their job, I am more than happy to spend my hard earned cash on myself.
So would you rather he had just settled the agreed account and said, cheers and bye-bye?
Why should you get a tip?

You done your job accordingly and i'm sure you was payed sufficently for ''your services'', i find it strange ''why'' he gave you a 2 tip tho.

Ps, Heres a tip, wealthy people make there fortune by not tipping {fact}.

As I said before I didn't expect a tip. But I find 2-00 a bit of an insult from somebody who's quite well-off.
Laurence2, my sentiments entirely my money is mine. When I pay someone to do a job, thats it. As said above, they often charge over the odds anyway and any built in profit is considered a tip.

If you werent expecting a tip, then why is it an insult? You walked away from a job with an extra 2 quid. His wealth has very little to do with it. Perhaps he should have given you nothing at all.
A tip is a tip! All he has done is buy you a drink, which is a nice gesture, so he is obviously pleased with your work, you may get more money indirectly from him as he may recomend you to friends and family.

Would you take a tip in the region of 50 of an OAP if you had done the same deed for them?

I've often refused tips from elderly people who couldn't afford it. An old lady forced 20-00 on to me, & when I left I posted it back through the letter box.
well then if you dont expect tips should have been a pleasant suprise :-)
so you've just answered your own qyuestion to a degree.

You often would'nt take a tip of elderly people, but if your wealthy then.........................................
Any tip I recieve is always greeted with a smile, and no matter what the amount, it is always nice to recieve a gesture of gratitude. Stop moaning and go enjoy your free drink tonight you ungratefull so and so.
Do you price a job according the the persons wealth then?
i would feel 2 is a bit of an insult - hardly would buy you a drink these days. As others say I would perhaps not tip a tradesman for doing the job they have quoted me for but I think you have done something extra for him by giving him a lift. Perhaps he could have given you a bottle of wine or even a fiver. I agree with laurence2 though - it is always clear to me why wealthy people have money, they are often quite mean when it comes to spending money.
and that is why he's wealthy lol. Good man.
