To list several countries and state they have happily been smoking weed etc. for centuries is plainly not true. Cannabis was not introduced into Jamaica until the middle of the 19th century. The participants may be happily puffing away but if you decide to join them, remember that both Jamaica and Mexico have mandatory jail sentences for any sort of drug offence. No liberal cautions there for the possesion of a bit of dope. I take your 'you have very little first hand experience' with laughable disdain. How many teenage girls have you met who have had a major stoke from taking one dose of amphetimine, to name one example I can quote. Carried out research did you?. Obviously not from the same sources as me, besides if you are under 30 you should have received drug education at school as it is part of the national curriculum. And lastly, you and others keep screaming at laurence that it is nothing to do with him what you do with you bodies. Now if you or anyone else on here kills themselves through the misuse of drugs I would think it sad but it wouldn't greatly upset me because I don't know you personally. But what I object to is that someone has to pick up the tab that drug abuse causes and that is the British taxpayer of which I am one and I resent my hard earned money being spent in that way.
The problem of taking illegal substances mainly lie not with the drug itself but with the individual who is taking it. Most of the drugs on the dangerous drugs list have at some time been legal.Heroin or diamorphine as it is known medically is the stongest painkiller known to man
and its' use in medicine has saved many lives. It cannot be used long term because of its' addictive nature and the tolerance the body builds up. This is what kills many heroin users, who gradually increase dosage , in the end just to feel normal, until reaching a fatal dose. Cocaine wasn't removed from coca-cola until 1906 and was also present in many other patent medicines in Victorian times. Opium was also widely available in this period under the name of laudanum and caused many deaths from accidental overdose. Amphetimines were used in the first world war to keep the troops alert and active. LSD was developed in America for the treatment of mental disorders but its' use was stopped when it was realized it was making patients worse. The point I'm making is that many of these substances were tried with lack of medical knowledge and subsequently banned when it was apparent that they caused a risk to health. The NHS would be unable to cope with the vast increase in health problems if drugs were legalised. The other problem is the effect on any particular individual. Of the babies born today in England, a tiny minority will during their childhood, develope a serious nut allergy. A problem serious enough to be life threatening. It is the same with any of these listed drugs. The human body is a complex chemical organism, introduce an alien chemical, and from individual to individual you will not know the reaction you will get. Some people may take an ecstasy tablet and feel no effect whatsoever whilst someone else may die on the same mixture.

Cont'd. I also don't think legalising drugs would stop the criminality of drug dealing. You would have to put an age limit on them, probably 18 making those younger than that the market for the dealers.I am not going to list the individual dangers of each drug, they are well documented, including cannabis but I most say it is sad to hear people say that they need them to have fun or to socialise. I will say that anyone who takes any substance not being certain if it is what it purports to be nor how their body will react to it, is displaying the IQ of your average 2 year old discovering mummy has left the medicine cupboard unlocked.

How is asking you if you work in a bar abuse? Unlike the tirade I get from you on every thing I speak about that differs in opinion from yours. I have never called you a freak or a bad parent, yet these are all things you have done to me. If you dont like my point of view, you dont have to but every time you resort to abuse. Its a weak arguing skill.

I never called you a fascist ever. The words fascist never came out of my mouth. Intolerant, maybe?
I either smoke pot or have a drink Leg! In my teens I would go and get wasted on drink and got myself into some awful situations. Yep, thats my bad for drinking to much. I cant smoke loads of weed at a time anyway but after a really bad incident with an alleged male friend, I decided having a smoke at home in company of people I trust is safer and I stick with that.

but the difference is legend I have a go at your argument...not you! I dont like confrontation but you and I are obviously chalk and cheese but that doesnt mean we cant talk civilly on other threads, Theres no need to get a pop in at me where you can.
When I stated parents that just say drugs are bad dont touch them make them look exciting to their children and they will be running to try it? I truely believe. I also believe that the people on this thread that have admitted to smoking pot have been far more tolerant and appear to be on other threads about different issues.
By the way, I was a publican from 99-03. So I am guilty of dealing the alcohol and saw a lot of sorry folk in my times (mainly due to the company I worked for but still).

"Parents who wont discuss THE FACTS with their children make drugs look glamorous and mysterious. At 14 I would have told my parents I hated the idea of drugs, that they were for losers, yet I was out taking them behind their backs. Bearing in mind you dont realise that occasional users can function as normal human beings I dont think you will be able to tell when your children start getting stoned." Nothing personal or insulting in their Legend.

goodsoulette, don't lower yourself into fighting with this lot, they must be right because they don't take drugs!!! I gave dope up a couple of years ago without any problems and no ill effects, I would still have a spliff today if the opportunity arose, no probs!!
When people are ignorant about drugs and lacking experience they seem to put themselves on this pedestal that stands so high!! trouble is they don't realise that they look so bloody stupid!!
I really cant be bothered with arguing with them, we are just going over the ground that has been trodden so many times, buy they have this mindset that says because smoking is illegal it must be the worst thing on the planet!!
I would have a spliff instead of alcohol any time, so much cheaper and safer!!
Goodsoulette, have a spliff for me!!! XXXX
