There is a total absence of logic from so many of these answers. 1 spliff makes a person a junkie? Ridiculous. In that case, the nice glass of red I had on Friday night with dinner has made me an alcoholic, and my bet on the Grand National labels me as a gambling addict.

For the last time, weed can stay in the system for 30 days if you're a regular smoker. NOT one or two. This is irrelevant. Having traces of something in your system does not mean that you're under the influence of it. Would you pass a drugs test? No. Would it mean you were a danger? No. A drugs test just proves that you have taken drugs before, not to test your physical and mental capacities.

In all my life I've never come across a company that drugs tests. Any that do, most probably have public safety in their hands, as with the train driver example. This does not mean that omeone who has smoked weed the a few nights earlier is unable to drive a train. The testing is in place to stop someone irresponsible from actually being high whilst in charge. It's a deterrent and way of being whiter than white in the event of an accident.

Chompu has a point. If alcohol and tobacco were new inventions they would most probably be banned. But they are ingrained in our culture, and other narcotics are not. The legality of all drugs varies from culture to culture depending on what society has evolved with

Many narcotics are illegal. Users are breaking the law. Fact. UK law is not moral certainty, and the debate here for many is whether it SHOULD be illegal, and whether there are situations in which drugs can be taken safely and responsibly. I believe that they can.

One wider issue is about whether by buying drugs you're funding a trade that makes other people's lives a misery. I would ask a lot of people to examine where a lot of their food, clothing and other products come from.
Legend, dont you work in a bar? If this is the case you are not in a position to talk about drugs. The only reason prohibition isnt in force is because people were making there own and dying. Not because people are adult enough to drink responsibly. The same approach to drugs is needed as life in Holland would demonstrate well.
Of course you shouldn't turn up to work in an inebriated state, having something the night before shouldn't matter, unless you had a total skin full. Driving or operating heavy machinery the next day is just wrong and endangers the lves of others. That's a law I agree with and anybody with common sense on here should too. As for people I get drugs from selling to kids, well we've been taking them since we were kids with not much adverse effects, save sleeping in occasionally and wasting an awful lot of cash over the years. As for telling my colleagues, most of them actually know I smoke the odd joint and go to party's and festivals to have a good time. What's the harm in that? As for people getting in trouble and getting addicted, I actually volunteered over 300 hours last year helping people with addiction problems and I'm also on the management committee of that charity, which I do for nothing and have a lot better idea about it than any of you, having been an introvenous user in the past (without ever getting hooked I might add) and I have been clean for about 3 years. Just because I smoke the occasional joint or partake in a spot of haluccinating doesn't mean that I have lost control or that I am a bad person. If you get off your high horse and stop slagging off strangers the rude jokes might stop.
sorry i dont move in the timeshare/drug user types.not many in los cris more of a las americas type problem.los cris is geared towards older folk.more drink than drugs.i tend not to mix with most of the ex pats here as there are a few dodgy characters here who take drugs.but the police are very hard on them .wheres theres cash there are gangsters and drugs go hand in hand with them im afraid.a sad fact the junkies heer try to forget or ignore
I would just like to thank LEgend and Laurance, I have read back the thread and seen the error of my ways. Instead of smoking a couple a joints every now and then(twice a month), I am going to start replacing that with a couple of bottles of wine every night, maybe 3. At least thats legal.

FYI Joe TL. I've always wondered how your reverence for recording legend and all round top man, David Bowie sits with your stance on drug users being scum. Is the man nothing more than junkie scum?

How about Freud, The Beatles, Ray Charles, Stephen King any number of notable people throughout history?

Laurence perhaps you would like to read the above link and then enlighten us all with your special wisdom.

And perhaps you could also tell me how me taking one ecstacy tablet, drinking diet coke and behaving myself is so much worse than drinking 10 pints of stella.

Oh and just to finish off In 2004 there were 6544 deaths in England and Wales alcohol related. 46 from ectasy.

Ssssshhhhhh if you listen you can just about hear the sound of tumbleweed....

Wow we, the ''druggies'' can post links.

Does that make them legal now lol

Fact, Every person who has taken drugs {illegally that is} is a ''Dealer''. you don't have to sell to be classified as a dealer, distribution to friends etc ?

i admire you all for your stubbing defence of taken illegal drugs, and trying to justify by comparing alcohol as a much more dangerous drug, but it won't wash with me, you carry on doing what you believe is right for you, and i'll carry on believing whats right for me, 100 odd postings on here is testament to me that i hit a raw nerve with some of you, it must of done some good to get that amount of postings, at least we all know where we stand with each other as of now

Drive carefully
