Hi prophet. I had a really hard time with panic attacks about 14 years ago but learned to overcome them (with help from a nurse thersapist).
I was just wondering if folks ever get to the stage where they don't have to worry about panic attacks. Even all these years later, I always feel as if I need to manage my panicked feelings.

Hi Shivvy
I ready your posting and would like to recommend a book called Self Help for your Nerves by Dr Claires Weeke's, it really helped me through some tough times. I suffered from severe anxiety and panic attacks, and still do to some extent, they come back to haunt me when I am stressed out, but I just think that the panics are physiological bodily reactions to thoughts, and can never harm me, so I say' 'come on and do your best!' and I just float the feeling awayThey are so simple, but so effective, I never thought I could get over anxiety problems, and live a normal ever again, but this book definitely helped. She also does audio tapes if you havent got time to read the books. Please try it, it might help - take care x

Hi EliseAngel,
Although I got help professionally, it was the Claire Weekes books that really made a difference. You sound as if they had the same effect on you as they did on me. I was reading them and couldnt believe that someone understood me/panic so well. I havent read them in a while but I think I'll revisit them again.

I had two mild anxiety attacks a few months ago. The doc and I are sure they are related to stress at home. ( Caring for ill parent.) She prescribed a low dose paxil and it seems to be working. I hope having in home care for parent willl help. Though as school is due to start again shortly I will be watching closely for triggers. The attacks both happened while school was still in session. It was also end-term which is very hectic too. I have researched anxiety attacks somewhat and see that my case is very mild. Good Luck.

Years ago I was in an abusive relationship and eventually had a nervous breakdown. Since then, about 18 years, I have suffered from panic attacks. I can go for months without one but then, for no apparent reason, they rear their ugly head again. I feel resigned to the fact that they will always be a part of me, I don't know if that's the right way to feel but I can't see any other way than to just accept them. I tend to get cross when they reappear and 'tell' them to do their worst!

Dear Shivvy this is the first time I've been on this sight and was looking about meteor showers when I saw your posting. I had suffered very bad panic attacks for a long time and they got so bad I became agrophobic. I started to see a lovely NHS psychologist and she helped me greatly but I still got occasional attacks. She then refered me to a hypnotherapist and I don't know how or why it worked but it did.Last October I sadly lost my husband who had a brain tumour and recently I've had a couple of bad panics but I just go back to the hypnotherapist (he's NHS too) and have a top up session. This method has really given me my life back ,although losing my husband when he wasn't old has taken the major part away again. Good Luck remember there is light at the end of the tunnel and you CAN get rid of these attacks.
can you please help me. ive started having panic attacks about air con although ive been told it stems from feeling out of control about circumstances in my life. i am getting help but feel on the verge of an attack quite often. im scared that im going to die. what actually happens during one and can you have a heart attack? im scared!
Bubbles that is the feeling I get, that I am going to die.The heart attack thing is palpitations which is another syptom of the adrenalin rush which starts of the panic attack. You won't die but the symptoms are so scarey. In the past have begged my husband to get an ambulance as I thought I was going to die but if you can try and relax(easier said than done) the panic will subside and you will realize that was all it was. Keep on at your doctor to get you help, and remember this is a medical problem like any other and you are entitled to help and treatment. Best wishes, will be thinking of you.
