that is certainly the grown up way to do things smudge!, I would do it that way to, Its a shame that so much hatred is centred on a child
Question Author
Cazzz - etc - a fiver isn't enough - mabybe a Wii game console for a stocking filler... do you see what I'm up against. and Uncle Martin has no idea so do I gain the wrath of him or 'aunty Sue;..or so i emigrate....

actually hippy, you are putting yourself up for that.. a gift is a gift, why do you feel the need to keep up with the jones'?

you follow the advice that people have been screaming to you, it sounds to me that you dont want anyone to find out you cant afford the stuff therefore your stressed to the hilt!

time to get real, be honest about your situation
Question Author
cazzz - it's the adults that have condidioned that child to accept nothing but the best. I cannot provied the best,, ie. Wii toys or brand new video games. I don't hate the child but the child knows no better...
I agree cazz!

Hippy, why do you think they will look down on you so much, just because you buy a small gift?

If that's the sort of people they are, then that isn't your problem it's theirs. Just do what you feel is right for your niece & for your pocket.

As said earlier, it isn't the child's fault that she's spoilt, it's the parents & the fact that she may be 'fat' shouldn't even come into it...
can you not explain your situation...?
...we keep crossing posts!
hippyhoppy a fiver is enough. If they expect more, then that is their problem. Don't feel guilty for giving . Your now a single mum with your own kids to buy for, surely they'll understand.
Myself personally, i buy what i can afford, as i said before it's the thought that counts.
Well in that case send a fiver in a card and if the feedback you get is that this is not enough then next year don't bother sending anything.

I understand the dilemma of the ex and the in-laws. Where you lose any credibility though is in your vitriolic diatribe against an 11 year old child. It makes you look silly and petty.

Have a word with the ex and tell him you'll send her a fiver and he can send the Wii game.

because they expect a gilft of their expence. which is totally un reasonable a I earn around 300/month

have you read the advice hippy?
Mmm, I was wondering that too cazz!

I'm off to put the kettle on....
Question Author
It's the parents that would have issue.. however as 'petty ' as'it sounds, the child in question i'snt the nicest in the world. I hear that Dameon is a peach!!
so you havent read the advice, you just want to bitch about them ?
Well I give up. Your belligerence is irritating and irksome. If you don't want advice then please don't ask for it.

In summary I would suggest that you leave this young girl out of your Christmas plans as clearly that would make you the happier person. I imagine with that sentiment you will have wonderful Christmas. I would guess she will too regardless.

Good night.
Question Author
Obviously I have just glossed over the advice then, can you highllight the salient points?
no thanks, I am starting to view you as a troll now hippy which is a shame because I thought you were okay before..
Question Author
I thought this was quite straight forward - I always bought the gifts for the children- now that my husband has gone - am I still expected to buy for his niece - or does he do it ( even though he has no clue) end of. not trying to be a troll or anything..
