My nephew is a recovering heroin addict. At the moment he's taking methadone under supervision at his local chemist. As he's got the dreaded 'flu bug, I've had to pick him up & take him to the chemist myself.
When I got to the shop there were at least 12 druggies outside;arguing, fighting & trying to sponge money off passersby.
My question is: Do you think it's a good idea to take young people who are dabbling in drugs to the chemist's, to see what happens to them if they persist in taking drugs?

My best friend is an addict in recovery. HEr mum used to have to take her to the chemists and before that would even go and score for her. She had no tough love and came from a loving well to do family, there was zero reason for her to be an addict. However, she wasn't your stereotypical drug addict, she was high functioning, worked and even looked after her daughter well. It was still a bit of a barrier between us and I had to cut the strings a bit when I had a child, but she's been clean for a couple of years now and works for NA.

I don't really understand the last bit of your question but I believe drug addicts should be given chances to get over their habit if they commit a crime, but not crimes that involve violence ( I mean shoplifting). If they offend again then it should be prison until they are clean and then a good rehabilitation program after. I expect all thats way too expensive to fund though.
Methadone is an anti-addictive heroin replacement, which gives the same effects has heroin.
*as heroin*

goodsoulette. That's where some of the problems lie, that is, he's never committed a crime. He's also got a job, after a couple of months on the dole, which caused problems with housing & benefits etc. He's been told hat the worst thing he did was to get a job! If he'd been to prison he'd have got subsidised housing or a place in a rehab clinic.
People like Goodsoulette's friend only further my utter contempt for druggies!!!!

Why am I paying for this womans treatment? Heroin costs the average sh!tbag 30-50 pounds per day. Now they are off it they should be considerably better off. Yet do they go to a private doctor? No they bloody don't. They further exploit the NHS and I believe methadone is always free on prescription.

Fair enough if some are wh0ring themsleves or stealing to pay for their putrid habit, they will not have the money to pay for prescriptions (no need to steal if you are on methadone) but the above example the woman should bloody well pay for her treatment.

My family physician charges about 400 per visit which is a smackhead wh0res weekly habit at a minimium.

Waste of space all of them.

Naturally Goodsoulette, I thank you for informing the police and social services that these poor kids are being brought up by a smackhead junky kunt.
carrust .."He's never committed a crime............."

Maybe not in paying for drugs, but without being patronisg you are aware that mere possession of a class A can hold a very lenghty prison sentance??

And did he drive???

So please do not think he has never committed a crime.
I should ignore the nasty intolerance. Her family are very wealthy and she went to private rehabilitation, and never cost you a penny. She is an events coordinator and earns too much to get tax credits . She did you no ill and yet you have all this hate for her. Some heroin addicts aren't on their own, some people love their children/family no matter what and will help them no matter what. Is that not a concept you can understand? So yes, getting over heroin addiction isn;t something she should be proud of, I and everyone else should tell her she is waste of space and should never ever be entitled to see an NHS doctor.

Should fat people who have high blood pressure go and see a private doctor? Should people who are involved in road traffic accidents go and see a private doctor? Should an ex alcoholic who has a astroke go and see a private doctor?

bewley. I'm not trying to defend him. All I was saying is he never robbed anyone or mugged an old lady. As fer long prison sentences for possession...how has the scrote Pete Doherty kept out of jail?
She did me no ill??????????????

Mmmmmm I tell that the the family of soldiers who have lost their lives (or limbs) fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan trying to rid the world of drugs.

Why do druggies and their looney supporters never look past their next fix and consider the wider picture??

The war in Afghanistan is as much about the poppy fields as it is on terror. You are aware of that aren't you?

So don't tell me she has done me no ill. Or are her family so wealthy she grows her own poppies???

And as a higher tax band payer these days, how much do you think I spend on the police and NHS to assist the decent world against smackhead filth??

LOOK OUTSIDE THE BOX ffs.
Death to them all.
carrust, what the law books state and what people get is two different things. They CAN get up to 7 years for mere possession, 15 for possession with intent to supply.

And Doherty probably has a very good lawyer!!!
I've seen you commending Brian Wilson on here for overcoming drug addiction. Is he excluded from your death to them all regime?
Brian Wilson never took bloody heroin. He was a pill pushing and acid trip head. And he is truly mad. And he is a genius. And he is deaf in one ear. And two of his brothers died. And he had an exploitive personal Psychiaitrist.

And most of all, he had "fun fun fun" in his "little deuce coupe".

Your point is?
His biography says he spent thousands on heroin and cocaine in the mid 70s.
I knew he was a coke head and suffered mental illness (Bi Polar etc) but didn't know he took heroin.

Did the mental illness come before the coke?
Wasn't he bipolar? I suppose that's something you are predisposed to since birth so probably the mental illness. My cousin got diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia after his heroin addiction was outed and became clean, my family blamed the drugs, which the psychiatrist said wasn't to blame and he more than likely started taking drugs to damp down his paranoia and other symptoms, so then they started blming each other for the bad genes.

I would have thought the LSD and herb smoking was pure experiment and enjoyment but the rest might have been to make him not feel his illness.
There is much speculation that he did take heroin and some of these "biographies" says he did.

My own view, taken from reliable musical sources is he never did heroin.

There are so many rumours and mad facts about Brian Wilson it is hard to distinguish fact from fiction.

The best one is he tried to get his daughters (about 6 and 9 at the time) on heroin and acid. And he used to keep his poo in the fridge so the aliens couldn't get his DNA.

Mad as a fish he was (and some say still is)

I am surprised you didn't mention Bowie however in your spat with me, Goody. Given the fact he has admitted heroin use on a huge scale would have promoted whatever justification you are after probably to a better level.
Wilson was very by polar when he wrote this.

I was going to mention that Wardy, but thought better of it ;o)

Goodie ~ that was my thought re Brian Wilson. The fact that he got incredibly heavy made me question the idea of him being on coke or heroin, actually..I thought loss of appetite was more common in coke and heroin users, however his Bi-Polar medication probably bloated him?

I don't know..I am rather green when it comes to drugs, being sheltered and all that..lol
but I have never heard you commending him on cleaning his act up. Everyone goes through rough patches in their lives and if they are prepared to help themselves then they deserve support not death wishes,
Rough patches ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I have had the hardest life if you could possibly imagine and I never even hit he bottle, let alone smack!!!!

And pippster are you referring to my (quite excellent) joke re polar of the Wilson facts?
