Does anyone do healthy drinking?
22 Answers
I find it hard to stay within the recommended safe limits for drinking alcohol. The doctors say I am binge drinking and threatening my health, if on one day i have more than:
1 pint of Stella
or
2 Pints of bitter
or
2 medium glasses of wine.
The limits are even less for women. I don't want to compromise my heath, but I will watch the football tonight with friends, and exceed those limits. And probably will on friday, saturday and sunday as well.
Is the only answer to give up all together?

total horsesh1t, the "limit" is and arbitrary amount. They say 4 pints is binge drinking for christ sake.
I read somewhere that the safe limit was originally 42 units a week for men but at the time they wanted the "safe" limit to compliment the DD law so they reduced it to 21.
Gromit what you drink won't even register! I know someone who drinks 5 pints of stella every day and drives home!

I said earlier last year I had a real fright when my liver tests resuts came back.
I drank every day, but never had a hangover and was never drunk.
A couple of glasses of wine at lunchtime, a glass with my dinner and another glass during the evening.
I had no choice but to stop drinking. I had the test quite by chance when they were investigating something else.
:(

People only believe government/medical guidelines when it suits themselves.
I rarely drink, if I drink alcohol once a month it surprising but I definitely go over my daily guideline when I do. I have sole charge of my children so the ifs and buts aren't really an issue for me. Ive never drunk at home alone, its the slippery slope to loserville.
Whoever it was who has the mate who drink drives regularly, I am stunned! I wouldn't be friends with someone who did that, with any luck it will only be himself he injures when his luck runs out.

This "higher limits" stuff is a bit of an urban myth I think.
I saw this claimed on an earlier thread - some hack in the Times claiming a WHO report had specified much higher limits.
I went and found that original report.
It had NOT FOR CLINICAL USE on it in big black letters and rated those amounts in low medium and high risks of death
So now we have an urban myth going around that 42 units a week is a safe level.
Well done the Times - how do they sleep at night?

Thats scary isn't it?
I've never hidden on here that I like a smoke everynow and then. I probably have two kiddy free nights a month on average. One will be spent having 2 or 3 joints whilst I watch some films at home and the other will be getting drunk (not to the extremes that I used to of course) but still a fair old amount of alcohol. Say 4 pints of cider, a couple of glasses of wine, the odd mojito and some shots of tequila.
I would love to know comparatively which is worse for my body.
