One of my kids went swimming and left her wet swimming suit in a cupboard at home, where it lay for around two months unwashed. I finally discovered it today and chucked it in the washing machine. When the cycle finished I removed it from the machine to discover that is was covered in tiny green 'mouldy' spots - which obviously were not removed by the wash. As my daughter likes the swimming suit I really don't want to throw it away, but is there anything I can do to get rid of the mould? Or is it beyond rescue and I should just bin it?
We have this with tents all the time (scout leader), the little green spots are probably the stains left by the mould and not the mould itself. It shouldn't grow any further, though we've never bothered cleaning them off.
Start your laundry of hot water and 1 cup BLEACH or 3/4 cup ULTRA BLEACH. When wash machine fills with desired amount of water toss the suit in. This will definetly get the mold spots out. Have used this on colored clothes and it has not discolored them, but I can't promise that it won't. If you are going to toss the suit, I would definitely try this first.
Thanks tomd and casdac. Money is a problem for me at the moment and I'm trying to watch the pennies I guess. I'm the type to try and salvage something before I bin it. Why are some people so flippant?
