Secondly, as I cannot believe my partner capable of murder, of any sort, I think, in the first instance, my inclination may be to lie, to provide an alibi, etc.........
However, as that is unlikely to be the end of the matter, I think that if the evidence seemed to be stacking up against my partner, I would have to give voice to my concerns....

444 years?
Wow, that's some going Legend!
i'm not saying anyone's answer is right or wrong here. I'm simply curious what everyone thinks.
And you don't have to keep on drumming it in Legend, I really do get you. There's back and white, no grey whatsever :-)
Incidently, of course it's bloody hypothetical!

lol luxury!
Blimey BOO, this should be relatively easy question to answer, but it isn't.
I love my husband & children dearly, but I honestly don't think I could lie for them knowing that they'd murdered someone. Then again, if the person had raped either of my daughters, I would find it very hard to report either of them, or my husband for murdering him.
If it was for some other reason, I'm sure I'd encourage them to go to the police with me & explain why.....
That's what I mean about it being a difficult question.

I know I just couldn't live with a lie like that. I've always been a very honest person & it would eat away inside me forever.
I'm not saying you're not an honest person BOO (you're lovely) & I do understand your reasons for sticking by your loved ones, but we all deal with things in different ways.
It would also break my heart having to face the truth, but must be better in the long run....

Okay BOO - if my husband was accused of murdering someone & swore on our children's lives, blah, blah, blah, that he wasn't at the scene & that he was totally innocent, I'd then say to him that as he's got nothng to hide, he should still go to the police & explain. Hopefully, with good evidence & DNA, he would be free to go. If not, then it would be obvious he had been lying to me.
Hope that explains a bit better. ;o}
