Something scary happened to me today.
27 Answers
I was just walking in a shopping centre with my mum (thankfully) and daughter when I went really dizzy with no warning at all. We were just near a chair so I could immediately sit down, if I hadn't I think I would have fainted. It got worse and worse and my arms and legs went tingly and I couldn't really focus on things around me. I then started to panic a bit and my breathing went really fast. I came around after about 10 mins but still feel strange now some 4 hours later. I now feel faintly dizzy and round my head feels a bit achy like. What the hell happened to me and what could cause this?!

thanks res to be honest I nearly sh*t myself!! Just glad I wasn't on my own.
no know I just wanted to know what the very knowledgable people on here thought first. If it happened again I would go to the docto but as I have just been there twice in the last 2 weeks with something else I didn't want to go if it were nothing.

Tigwig, this has happened to me a few times - the first time was really scary, I wasn't particularly hot or anything but I remember all dottyness in front of my eyes and then getting hot and dizzy and I couldn't concentrate, Ihad to hold on to a door to keep myself up.
Since then it has happened a few times and I have linked it with being too hot / not enough to eat or drink, etc. The worst time was when I was waiting for a bus on a hot summer's day, having been out the night before so probably dehydrated and by the time the bus pulled up I couldn't see, so I had to feel my way to a seat.
Usually after a few deep lunguls of air it passes, but the more you panic the worse it gets X

You make an interesting point, no.knowledge, many ot these people, HAVE seen a Dr. but either are not satisfied with his diagnosis or with his treatment......they would rather get a 2nd opinion from ABers, and believe me there are plenty of them.......I agree with you it is rather odd.
I feel however that the whole point is a sort of "sopp" until the problem disappears, or if it continues, seeing a GP.
Back to THIS question.....I agree with redcrx.

could well be Sgt. Rock! I have had a really tough few months really. Hubby hasn't got any work , can't yet claim benefits, are living off handouts from parents, going through the process of registering as a childminder and all the hours of work that have gone with it as well as working part time until doing my back in! I am off work sick now, we both feel like complete losers and on top of that was trying for a baby and now can't due to the money situation!!!! Shall I go on?
Tigwig, hope you feel a bit better now. I too have experienced this before, normally as others have said, when too hot and crowded. Last time was last winter on a train late at night - so had warm clothes and coat on, had to stand on the train as no seats were left. I started feeling light headed, and luckily as it was so crowded I didnt fall anywhere. People moved and I had to sit for the rest of the journey, I drank some water and was very glad I was not alone. I was sure it was just too hot and crowded, and then when you start thinking about the situation I am sure that doesnt help. I can understand why you ask on here, because its nice to know when something has happened to other people too.
Tigwig- that sounds like a classic panic-attack.
I had my 1st one in a restaurant. I must have passed out for ages, because when i came round there was an paramedic crew there!
My arms and legs were tingling, then numb, i could hardly breathe, i couldn't swallow. The paramedics were fabulous though- they knew exactly what was happening. They simply calmed me down, got me breathing in and out of a paper bag, and within a few minutes i was fine.
Haven't been back to that restaurant since though!
Good luck to you xx

When you say dizzy, did it feel as though you were tumbling? Did you have to sit down because your balance had gone?
An inner ear infection could have affected your balance. It is absolutely horrible, and as your brain is getting confused messages about which way is up, it sometimes makes you nauseous, or worse.

tigwig, if you haven't seen a doctor you should. As ABers have suggested it could be different things, just a physical reaction to overheating or a stress-related panic attack (which does sound possible considering what you've been going through). But it really needs proper medical investigation in case it happens again while you're driving or something.
