Hormone levels, health of the individual, stress at the time of the paricipants. In actual fact the odds are AGAINST satisfactory penitration of the sperm into the ovum (egg)
From your questions it would seem that you and your partner are keen to conceive. my advice to you both is to stop worrying about position and the time of the month and enjoy a normal sex life and pregnancy then has a good chance of succeding. If after 2yrs of failure, then seek medical evaluation.......both of you.
Good luck.

Well no I wouldn't be worried at all. Assuming that a woman has a 28 day cycle ( which most don't but it's the average) then that makes her LIKELY to ovulate around day 14. sperm can live for about 3 days so assuming that you had sex with her AND she was due to ovulate within 3 days, you MIGHT get her pregnant but as the others said it's a massively complicated thing and takes more than a couple of lucky hits sometimes, but it certainly doesn't mean that you're infertile. Just have sex naturally RELAXEDLY and without any hassle during the middle two weeks and eventually you'll get lucky.

A doctor will usually investigate a couple if pregnancy hasn't occured within a year, but it's a very complex thing. General health must be taken into consideration - such as PCOS and chlamydia and other STI's. If none of these are present, then further tests are done, to ascertain who has the problem. Sometimes though, there appears to be nothing wrong with either partner, and it's just a case of getting the timing right. Ovulation can occur from day 10 after a period, to day 14 - and sometimes in between. This is why it's important for tests to be carried out, to make sure that ovulation occurs at all.
