I have met a new man and I like him and he seems to like me too.
It is a fairly new relationship and he is the first person I've met for ages that I really like.
The problem is he smokes and appears to be a seasoned smoker . Also I suffer with astma and bonchitis.
I know smokers get prickly when asked about it so how do I broach the subject?

Thanks everyone, your right if he's interested enough he will stop smoking near me and if not it's his loss.

Don't do tongues, you'll taste it for days after, believe me.

Yes I too could taste smoke all day the next day .....yuk
shame he's a great kisser
I don't understand what situation you could be in where he would smoke around you? All public places are non-smoking, so if he is smoking around you then I would assume you are choosing to be in a smoking area? If he smokes in your home then I think it's simple, ask him not to! It's your home afterall, and even though my husband smokes and I did until last year, we have never smoked indoors because it stinks. Lastly, if he is smoking around you at his own home then I would suggest that you ask if he minds if you open the window as it makes your asthma play up.

I guess it's down to personal choice as to whether the taste of a smoker repulses you or not, it doesn't bother me, but it obviously does with some people.
very good points there nat

it was outside on the way to the pub and in the beer garden, close proximity.
and in his own house where it was worst.
i would tell him to smoke outside if he comes to mine.
and kissing afterwards seems to give me the smoke back.
well could say same that if you really liked him you would get over his smoking
I've always avoided smokers like the plague and it was always one of the first questions I asked, whether they were smokers and have never dated one, except for my first boyfriend, but he concealed his smoking for months.

You will just have to be honest with him, tell him you like him alot and find him perfect in every way except one, the smoking. Then tell him about your Asthma etc, saying how ill it's likely to make you.

If he feels the same way about you, then who knows maybe his New Year Resolution will be to quit the deadly weed.
Smokers.....it's just not the smell when they are smoking...their clothes smell of smoke, their car smells od smoke(particularly leather seats) the curtains smell of smoke and the whole smoker's environment is gross.

P.S Am upset with sallabanas and joggerjayne as I have been ill for 2 days and all they could think of was rabbits and vibrators.
