Grrrrr, men!!

Bit of a rant here, but I guess my main question is why are men such idiots??
Last September I went through quite a lot of heartache when I was dumped. It's only in the last 8 weeks or so that I've really picked myself up and decided to build my life again.
So at the start of Jan I joined a dating site and within a few days got a message from a nice sounding guy. We continued to email for a few weeks, then swapped numbers and eventually went on our first date last Saturday.
It really was the best date I've ever had, we spent the whole day together, laughing, talking etc and spent a good 40 mins 'saying' goodbye at the end. He got in touch the next day and asked if I was free again this weekend - great! We also spoke the next day, and the next. But on Wednesday, it all stopped and I haven't heard from him since. I sent a text asking if all was ok and left a voicemail asking if we're still on for this weekend but clearly not.
So, whats the point in asking me out again and keeping in touch the few days following our date if he didn't really want to see me? I know I'm going to get lots of 'you win some, you lose some, just move on' etc. But he was a really great guy and showed no signs of not liking me, so I am kinda upset. It feels like I built myself up to be knocked straight back down again : (

he could simply have lost his phone...an not have made a copy of your number...?
phone it from a phonebox...an see if he answers...then at least you will know for sure that you are being snubbed...

I'm not sure if its a case of 'all men being idiots' the one you met certainly wasnt - he got what he wanted and left without a trace. He was no doubt charming and attentive enough to get to where he wanted with you. Sex isnt a down-payment for a relationship.
Internet dating is a minefield and maybe you need to sound men out a bit better. If they're decent enough men they'll understand waiting a while before getting the opportunity to know you a whole lot better. Players dont have the patience for that and will simply move on to the next woman.

Not married, never have been, but have tried a few dating sites and gone on dates.
Maybe he, like me, realised after a couple of dates that something wasn't quite right. I met some really nice women, and am still friends with one, but it took me going down that road to realise I didn't want to do that.
Sorry, nothing beats just catching that "look" of someone and following that up.

Booldawg - We didn't have sex!!
What I mean by 'saying' goodbye was that we were kissing and cuddling on the train platform.
I've been on plenty of dates before and know that if I didn't like someone, I wouldn't bother spending so long doing that. In fact I would steer clear of kissing them altogether!
Never mind, I'm keeping my options open, talking to different guys etc. Lets see what happens!

To be honest, I think there genuinely may be a good reason for it.
His phone has been switched off since Wednesday, he hasn't logged into the site we met on since Wednesday, hasn't updated his facebook page or logged into his MySpace page, which he usually does every day. (I'm not some kind of internet stalker btw, he invited me to look at his pages before we met up!)
He has had some serious health issues lately, which he had to drop out of Uni for and move back home and I know he still gets ill from time to time, so that may explain it.
Still, if his phone is switched off it means I'm not the only one who hasn't heard from him!
