Has anyone ever tried eating more to lose weight? I have tried different diets and they never work and then I read sometimes its better to eat more as starving yourself or dieting where you eat less makes you store fat and you can often put on weight. I am now eating 6 times a day and drinking lots of water. Breakfast as soon as I get up to boost metabolism then healthy snack, dinner, then afternoon snack, tea then late snack but make sure 2 hours before bed. Then at least half hour of cardio exercise 3 times a week. I have not lost any yet but haven't gained either. It may work or in couple of months I may look like a whale.
Hi 4get, little and often is an excellent start. I try to make sure I don't eat after 6 or 7pm and make sure I walk everywhere as much as I can. You should have a look at the GI diet to see what foods are best for slow release energy, just for an idea of what things to eat. I hate eating breakfast but I force myself to have a slice of brown bread with some peanut butter which keeps me going before a snack mid morning. You certainly sound like you are on the right track! Good luck x
Yes this is true, eating little and often can help with weight loss. Of course it depends on what exactly you are eating.
You really should also do resistance training too, as this will help to speed up your metabolism and your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) which is the amount of calories you use whilst at rest.
I eat like that naturally. Although I have never eaten breakfast. I'm just a grazer and can't handle large amounts of food in one sitting. I usually eat my dinners in two sittings. I've also never been over weight so I presume it's my eating habits.
Actually....I lied. I was so hungover this morning that I went to McDonald's on the way back from school. It nearly made me puke. How do people eat that sh!te???
I never ate loads before unless at mums and then she force feeds me lol. On a typical day I was having porridge at about 11am then dinner at 13.00 just a sandwich and soup. then tea. No snacks. Now I have cereal at 8am. mid morning snack of cereal bar or celery at about 11am, then dinner at 13.00pm then afternoon at 3pm an apple then normal tea then rice cakes for late snack. And doing my dance mat every day for at least half hour
As well as cardio I would also try resistance training and / or some sort of core stablity exercise / stretches, perhaps yoga or pilates.
Ummm, I'm not sure if I should be worried if you are a teacher or pupil?!
P.S. 4get how did you eat before then? I generally eat as you do - three main meals plus healthy snacks in between, the only thing I don't have is a late evening snack but I don't have time to even if I wanted to. I think it's a pretty natural thing to eat in that pattern
quite a few years ago my mum wanted to lose weight and I felt I could do with losing a few pounds. We followed slimming world diet (not going to classes) and I could not believe how much we seemed to be eating, was definitely more than what we normally had but obviously the right things! We did both lose weight and were very happy with the results. My weight is quite consistent now and I eat quite healthily - I do need to watch my portion control though!!
I lost loads and I mean loads by formulating my own diet (back on it again as i have been far too good to myself).
I had Special K and skimmed milk for breakfast and then as much fruit as I could eat whenever I felt like it then had chicken or tina mixed in in with salad veg.
I crucially supplemented it by vitamins and also Green Tea 9in tablet) form and it does work.I started again yesterday -I am just having home made soup (in my slo cooker lol) this week then i'll start again with some chicken -already I have been back and forwards to the loo so the veg and green tea are working.
I also didnt touch alcohol for about 6mths -I dont have to be so stringent this time as I have really maintained my weight loss-just needed a kick up the bum lol
I have started taking vitamins and green tea tablet (cant stand the drink) And also eating wholemeal creals for breakfast. Dinner I can be good but tea is a bit different as I have to cook for my bloke so I just have a smaller portion to what he has.
I have alcohol every other week but I lose weight, not through bad night of throwing up but because I dance my @rse of all night. lol
With respect while eating patterns can have an effect on how much of the food you eat your body turns in to fat, it is a physical impossibility to eat more and lose weight (unless you have found some way to break the basic laws of physics).
My standard response in such matters is have a look at the prisoners of war liberated at the end of WWII. Do you think they were skeletal from eating loads or nothing whatsoever?
Of course the very difficult part is finding that balance between too much and not enough.
Gilf, you say it is a physical impossibility to eat more and lose weight.
Well it depends on your definition of 'more' surely.
If you increase the volume, but substitute large amounts of high fibre / low fat food, rather than your previous high calorie intake, then you may well lose weight.
You would then appear to be (and feel like) you are eating more.
Mind you, I don't think the F in F plan diet stood for fibre. Something far more unpleasant instead.
