Can anyone give advice My husband had an opperation two weeks ago he went to the loo ok the first week but for the past four days nothing, he is in a lot of discomfort and walking around like a bear with a sore head. He has never experienced this befor so he thinks it is the end of the world He has spoken to his doctor who advised a lactulose solution this is doing nothing. I bought a senokot but his doctor told him to avoud this one I dont know why as they sell it over the counter. His diet is fine. Any ideas Im desperate, I have just sent him for a paper 9exercise)
Seeing as he is in contact with his doctor, ask him for some Movicol. It is a powder (quite pleasant tasting) which you dissolve in water............several sachets may be needed initially but it has the desired effect and doesn't leave you feeling 'uncomfortable' as it softens everything up.
i have no idea why your doctor went so over the top about senna - it is very widely used and very effective.
and nothing wrong with taking senna and lactulose together as they work differently. Anyway, is he eating a lot of fibre, and has he increased his fliud intake? seriously if he drinks extra water today (a cuple of pints) im sure it will help
