Im the same im terrified of them, i once got chased by one in the garden it kept flying towards me and I was running around and screaming, while my boyfriend laughed at me, I;m more scared of butterflys and moths than wasps or bees, even though they can't harm you and I'm guite embarassed about it, as people think im stupid when I tell them.

That is such a shame as I think Butterflies are such beautiful, graceful, harmless creatures. Something must have sparked off your fears when you were younger.

Now onto spiders - I nearly crashed my car on Wednesday, as a big spider crawled out of the air vent & it's web spindle got longer & longer towards my knee. I had to pull over into a lay-by & ease it out of the car with my chamois leather!

try self hypnosis to contain your fears (including you mully and smudge). It's a simple matter of breathing and giving yourself the suggestion that you are no longer afraid.

You may think that it's crap, but I have used it to treat chronic pain...believe me, it helps.... it wont solve all your problems, but maybe it can change your fears into something a little more helpful to you.

Also, did something happen to you as a child to make you react this way?? Ask your parents, you may find that something with wings may have sparked this off....

Hope this helps!!

I am also absolutely terrified of bats!

We all have very strange fears and yours is not odd at all - you wouldn't believe what mine was....!!!!!

They are the most beautiful of creatures but perhaps it's the wings or the antennae - or even the legs that bother you, but no matter the way forward is for you to be de-sensitized a little at a time. The only way to do this is to confront your fear head on.

Do you have a Wildlife and Butterfly Park near you? If you do go up to the window of the butterfly house and look in - take time to marvel at the many varied colours. Nothing else, you're outside looking in, so your'e quite safe. Do this until you feel comfortable - then gradually go inside, breathe easily, stop and think what's the worst thing that could happen to you? Keep practising and marvelling at these perfect works of art - and you'll soon be able to just see them with joy. Good luck - and you'll be fine, I know!!

I'm with you on that one!

I have found my fear comes from my mother who intensely dislikes butterflies too.  She seems to think that it came from her dislike of moths and it has been transfered onto butterflies.

Personally, I really hate anything that "flutters" - it makes my skin crawl.  And guniea pigs but that's a different story altogether....
